Jaxon

Successfully reversing your sword, you move it into position with a fraction of second to spare parrying the sword strike aside. You realise too late that your opponent’s sword and attack with it is just a faint as he brings his shield in neatly to hit you squarely on your central left side.

The effect is not what you expect

The shield attack is apparently of sufficient force to trigger your personal body shield, which flairs to absorb the impact to a point where you only feel the momentum of the hit. At this happens your opponent’s physical shield pulses and glows a faint blue colour as soon as it comes into contact with your personal body shield.

Your personal shield charge indicator (for practical purposes this is somewhere sensible where you can see it) registers that 5 out of your total of 10 shield charges that the system normally holds have been drained by that one impact. This is possibly an error since on the basis of that hit it should be no more than one.

Taking the advantage your attacker brings his parried sword around and down for what looks to be a straight thrusting attack towards your central body mass, drawing his shield closer into his body for protection – again what appears to be a pretty standard manoeuvre on the face of it (you can now both defend and attack once this round unless you have skills or abilities that allow you to do both more than once per round)

Sasha

(OOC – just for clarity Jaxon is only fighting one of the two figures, the second is / was standing back from the conflict at that point).

As you reach down to draw your own sword in order to assist Jaxon, the second of the two opponents carrying the larger two-handed sword moves as soon as your hand touches the hilt of your weapon. With impressive speed and agility which marks the skill of a clearly experienced combatant she moves to engage you before you get too close to Jaxon.

Her fighting style is more akin to that used by House Li-Halan (OOC - think Samurai strikes here), holding here weapon in both hands she makes a series of short forward strikes with her blade towards you pushing forward with well placed steps as she does so and with a sharp, chilling battle yell appropriate to that style.

Having prudently observed her from the outset you are prepared for what would otherwise have been a very swift and sudden attack (you can now both defend and attack once this round unless you have skills or abilities that allow you to do both more than once per round).

Jaxon

He is aware of Sasha and the other opponent in his peripheral vision, moving to engage each other but needs to focus on his own opponent. This shield drain is obviously a feature of this weapon combination. Interesting. But he will learn more if he uses his skills and defences to good effect.

Thinking quickly he decides to deactivate his personal shield if his opponent makes another shield attack, thereby hopefully saving the personal shield charges for defence against the sword. He can stand a few bruises, he's had enough in his time with the Hazat. Maybe he can turn the shield with his blade? Another possible defence.

These thoughts run quickly through his mind whilst he feints and moves to try to position an attack away from that shield. He has skills in dodge and melee, and his perception skills are strong. He will try to read his opponent and land a blow where he might be vulnerable.

[OOC: Strike using Melee and Dex, unadjusted target 16. Ooops.. 20 ]

Sasha

Sasha moved to block the other adversary's blow, grunting slightly as she acknowledges the other's skill and ability. She stepped slightly to the side to move just enough closer to move closer to Jaxon and provide cover to his flank.

As she does so, the noblewoman of Xanthippe does her best to attack her two handed opponent.

[OOC: Using similar tactics and abilities to those of Jaxon, although I do not have the specs at hand at the moment.]

(OOC - Ouch! Unfortunately a 20 in this system is a crit fail sad )

Exeter I will roll for you to assist here now I know what you are doing
• So – dex 8, melee 8 = 16 goal.
• D20 Roll = 13 which is below your goal of 16 = success! (4 victory points - well done!)

**********************************************************************************************************************

The combat unfolds and changes rapidly as follows:

Jaxon manoeuvres into position for a solid defensive engagement a typically Hazat tactic with just enough bravado behind it that it should successful. Moving into commence a turn attack on his opponents shield whilst initially avoiding it the manoeuvre begins to go badly wrong at that point, his opponent seeming to adjust to the ploy at almost the same moment. Missing his shield with your sword by mere millimetres he brings his shield edge down on your wrist as it passes knocking your hand down, at which point your weapon which sails out of your hand and skidding across the floor. The impact numbs your wrist at the point of impact (temporarily - 1 round), your training instinctively tells you to find your footing first and foremost.

Seeing the second opponent move in Sasha’s timing is through experience and a cool head enough to tip the balance away from Jaxon’s error. A well-placed hit on the shield of Jaxons opponent forces him to take a more defensive stance and stopping any immediate follow through advantage he had over the disarmed Jaxon. You will note that as your blade hits his shield as ‘splash’ of energy radiates outwards across the shield from the point of impact.

Immediately following thorough to meet the downward stroke of the second opponents longer blade the upward swing of your sword has some power to it, enough not only to stop and parry her downwards attack on you but flinging her sworn upward and back with such force that it almost rips the grip out of her two hands. The clash of swords causes the longer sword of your opponent to ring out loudly, not just the clashing sound of blade upon blade but an unnaturally clear tone almost like the ringing of a tubular bell

Clearly unprepared for such a powerful counterstrike she is forced to take a step backwards to steady herself and recover her position, moving to bring the sword back into a high horizontal blocking stance as she does so.

“Caution young Hawkwood” adds Fedor – you can almost hear the smile

“Shields are not always shields here and swords are not always swords.”
