Order of Play:

  • Argus - 92
  • AJ - 98

We ended the last game with Weez's play benefiting Exeter and AJ on the last round. Weez once again comes to the rescue and saves AJ 9 points by deciding to bust Row 2 for a point instead, filling Row 4 and making it ugly for anyone with a 3-digit card!

Order of Play:
  • AJ - 6
  • Weez - 33
  • Argus - 37
  • Exeter - 78
  • Gypsy - 79

With three wide-open rows beckoning, players spread out. AJ heads for Row 1, while Weez and Argus choose comfortable seats in Row 2. Exeter and Gypsy prove they can count by incrementing Row 3.

Still plenty of room for everyone if they cooperate.

Order of Play:
  • Exeter - 10
  • AJ - 17
  • Argus - 41
  • Gypsy - 42
  • Weez - 86

Your mission was to spread out onto the available three rows -- and you all succeeded!

Exeter and AJ took two of the three spots on Row 1, while Argus and Gypsy filled Row 2 and Weez picks one of the two spots on Row 3.

Only two spots left. Someone's taking points this next turn....

Order of Play:
  • Exeter - 2
  • AJ - 22
  • Argus - 25
  • Gypsy - 87
  • Weez - 96

Exeter surveys the options and decides a sure 6 points beats the risk of taking more, especially if someone loads up Row 1 with a lot of points.

Like AJ would have done, sneaking into the last spot with a 5-point card and creating an 11-point but for Argus. But thanks to Exeter's bust, Argus is spared!

Gypsy eyes the last spot on Row 3 and snags it, and Weez is not nearly as lucky as Argus was, in the same situation but without anyone saving her from taking 9 points.

The 26 and 27 would be guaranteed safe, and anything under 25 can risk a point. Everyone else, hold on to your hats!

Order of Play:
  • Gypsy - 1
  • Argus - 14
  • Weez - 15
  • Exeter - 26
  • AJ - 27

The wide open vistas of Row 3 are an illusion. Only one card would fit there, and as a 1-point row, it's a likely bust target and not a safe place to play, anyway, if anyone had that card. To no one's surprise 3 players put forth an offer to take that point, but Gypsy was the one who clinched the deal, knowing she had to take at least one point sometime with her 1 -- why not now? Argus and Weez follow along behind.

Exeter and AJ, meanwhile, played their guaranteed safe cards to fill the old row 1, now row 2.

Now it's the 16 and 18 people hope to have in their hands... and failing that, any card under 25.

Code
 START BUST CURRENT

Order of Play:
  • AJ - 3
  • Gypsy - 18
  • Weez - 21
  • Exeter - 82
  • Argus - 93

Like last round, there were exactly two safe plays. Unlike last round, there was no illusion of more space, and if one didn't have the safe cards, one had to gamble on how others would play.

AJ surveys his options and decides that a sure-thing 4 points, and the opportunity to dump a low card, beat other options, making every card under 25 safe. That includes not only Gypsy's guaranteed safe 18, but Weez's 21 which would have taken 5 points, but takes zero thanks to AJ's play.

On the other end of the spectrum, Exeter and Argus played high on Row 3, hoping somoene else would play lower. Argus is successful in his hopes thanks to Exeter's lack of success, the latter collecting 9 points and creating another illusion of playable space high on the board, on the row most likely to fall to a bust play. It seems the 23 or 24 are now the cards everyone wants to hold...

Code
 START BUST CURRENT

Order of Play:
  • Weez - 24
  • Gypsy - 62
  • Argus - 63
  • AJ - 71
  • Exeter - 84

Weez is lucky enough to hold one of the two guaranteed safe cards, and slides onto Row 1 with her 24.

Everyone else is stuck on Row 2, trying not to be first... and unfortunately for Gypsy, she's one pip below Argus and collects the 10 points. Ouch.

Order of Play:
  • AJ - 29
  • Gypsy - 60
  • Argus - 67
  • Exeter - 73
  • Weez - 97

Options are slim. AJ takes a small risk with a low card and is rewarded with the last seat at Row 1's table. Gypsy once again finds herself just below Argus, collecting 5 points this time. Argus and Exeter follow along. Weez is lucky enough to have a card that fits on Row 3 which nobody bothered to bust.

Code

Order of Play:
  • Gypsy - 36
  • Argus - 45
  • Exeter - 49
  • AJ - 54
  • Weez - 55

Down to the final choice for players, and options are limited, generally to high/low options in a small range. The goal? Avoid taking points. If you're willing to risk 3 points this round you go low and hope to be undercut next round. Or you can gamble that maybe a 1- or 2- pointer will be available on the last turn.

Gypsy ends up lowest, happy (or at least not as unhappy as she could be) to grab those 3 points. Everyone else follows behind, creating a 12-point row. Those who held on to their low cards now are competing to not take 4 points....

Code
 START BUST CURRENT

Order of Play:
  • AJ - 28
  • Gypsy - 43
  • Argus - 47
  • Exeter - 52
  • Weez - 61

AJ missed out on the 3-point option and ends up with 4. Not that he can be blamed, as he was only one pip away from a worse outcome. Gypsy's well thought out gamble turned out to have made no difference as she follows along along with Argus and Exeter.

Weez, on the other hand, is finding out the meaning of Shakespeare's quote of being hoisted by one's own petard. Nobody rescuse her from her own 55 played last round which, along with the other cards on Row 1, adds up to 12 points. Ouch... and that's a wrap.

Remarkably, Argus finishes his second consecutive perfect game! Someone's doing something right!

Well, we'll have to see if that keeps up. (I haven't looked at my next starting hand yet, so I don't know whether it includes a 1.)
