I was running Discord on my Surface Pro 4 since I don't have a webcam on my gaming PC, a home-built setup in a 10+ year old Antec tower. I just keep upgrading parts inside as time goes on. Current hardware running is a Intel i5-9600K, 16GB RAM and Nvidia RTX2080 on Asus ROG Maximus XI Code motherboard. I really like my new ASUS 4K monitor I got last year that took me forever to save up for. I was happy that my 50 Mbps DSL Internet connection managed to keep up with all of the video and surprised my usage was not as much as I thought it would be.

I use Chrome, have a GTX970 graphics card (Like computer games) and a 50Mg connection. For the online connection a Logitech HD 1080p webcam. And I have an ASUS monitor too, 27". | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,218 Likes: 55 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,218 Likes: 55 | And I really like your setup Neptune! It's been a more hectic week than expected - considering I'm in near total lock-down. I'm getting to this tonight. Work has been busy. But it's better to be busy than bored, right? As an FYI, I've needed to retrain myself, an old time AIX/COBOL/DB2 that spent 20 years mastering one ERP (Lawson) to now having to relearn everything as a 60+ year old. I've been teaching myself C#, in a .net environment as well as trying to master all the new tools of Epicor. Add to that that I also had to catch up on about 20 years of neglected webdev tech. It's like studying for a doctorate. That means that I've been spending much of time on Udemy. It's the kind of stuff that needs deep immersion and after a full day of work followed by several more hours of class, I'm kind of drained. It's not something I intended to do. It would have been nice to lean on decades of expertise in my pre-retirement years, but alas, I didn't get to make the decisions

I was in a similar boat, having old programming skills in the same technologies as you. I chose to move to the Project Management and then Agile Coach areas partly because I dreaded the thought of trying to learn all of the modern programming techniques and languages that you are doing now.
I remember when I learned COBOL back in the 80's my teacher told me it would be an obsolete and dead language within 10 years! Yet it is still running mission critical systems today and actually I know that you know there's a lot of money available for old COBOL programmers nowadays. It is actually not a bad plan for retirement to be a part time COBOL programming consultant. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,106 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,106 Likes: 5 | I was always happiest at the lowest level ... assembly language.
I got my start in collage writing assembly language programs for the PDP-9 and CDC 6500. But I also learned Fortran and C ... just because <g>
I spent my first decade out of collage programming the (mostly) 4 bit single chip micros used in 'smart controls' for things like Amana microwave oven controls.

Mostly do script work now if I dabble at all. Mostly I do many other things. I understand being too drained to want to do anything creative. No worries on my part. Do what you need to.

I remember having to carry around my 'special' 'control card' for the IBM keypunch machines ... and the box of cards I carried around for years. I had groups of cards that were functions and subroutines that I could use to 'build' a large part of my programs <g>
Then the university got ASR-33 'teletypes' that let us talk to the machines without needing cards. There were 4 of them originally ... so there was a sign up sheet where you had to 'book' your time. Ahhh ... the good old days <chuckle>

I returned to college and finally earned my college degree when I was 45. I then studied to get certified as a PMP shortly thereafter. I write code for fun - not joking. It's just that I have to relearn EVERYTHING. A different ERP and all the business logic and unique tools that needed to be learned on top of having to learn a a different programming language on a different OS using a source editor, a different database and a different report writing tool. I tell people that don't understand that it would be like a skilled American accountant getting relocated to China and having to now work exclusively in a place where the language, laws and culture are all completely new and very different. I was hoping to wind down a bit and relax when I reached my 60's! And yeah, I wrote quite a bit of Assembler in my day. I've worked on machines as varied as the Apple IIc, GE435 mainframes, Honeywell DPS8 mainframe and DPS6 minis, DEC VAX, IBM 360 - MVS but most of my work over the past 25 years has been on Unix systems (HPUX & AIX). I can make those systems purr. OK. I posted

And I know you said you were hoping to wind down and relax a bit when you reached your 60s, but maybe just maybe you're exactly where you want to be. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,916 Likes: 1 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,916 Likes: 1 | [Arus Lays on Hands on Kriv for 28 hit points of healing.]
Just an aside here, and it may not be the case now, but there's an oddity about Lay on Hands to share. Since PC's that are down, making death saves, are at 0-HP. You could expend a single HP on the downed PC and they are up. Like I said, it's probably not the situation but it's a clear way to conserve magical save-a-life healing. The PC can then use hit dice during a rest to recover more or other healing can be done. I just thought I would share.

But I figured it would be more efficient to give Kriv enough health to make him combat-ready.
Does hit dice healing require an Action?
Update: Ah OK, they're used at the end of a Short Rest. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,916 Likes: 1 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,916 Likes: 1 | I was waiting for Zeim and Neil to go for Silvaren and Narth but then the giants go and with double move after double move without having to worry about difficult terrain like members of the party do, the giants will pull away and soon meet their friends. An orog, an or orc and a few magmin will also slow the party down. With a few very hurt individuals, it's time to call the battle and move on with the aftermath....
