Henceforth Danai shall be known as General Michonne. | | | | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 47,990 Likes: 1 Moderator | Moderator Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 47,990 Likes: 1 | | | | | Joined: May 2014 Posts: 5,158 Likes: 1 Confusingly Confused Moderator | Confusingly Confused Moderator Joined: May 2014 Posts: 5,158 Likes: 1 | I saw it last night, and while I liked it, I did not think it lived up to the hype.
That said, for me Danai Gurira and Letitia Wright stole the movie. Both amazing characters and actresses. | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 7,944 Sower of Insanity Moderator | Sower of Insanity Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 7,944 | I want to go see it again. I think the last time I was willing to see a movie multiple times in a theater was when the original Star Wars movie came out. It's been a few years. MoviePass is lookin' pretty good right now. After that, logic and story goes out the window. Why didn't T'Challa just tell the council that Killmonger and his father had been working with Klaw to steal vibranium?
That would make him a criminal and traitor, why isn't he just thrown in prison? Yet T'Challa never says a thing!
This gaping plot hole is never addressed, not once and the whole third act is built on it. Ruined the film for me. Without story continuity, all you have a series of vignettes. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,106 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,106 Likes: 5 | <heh> I have a file full of things that drove me nutz in various movies. Most of them are B movies or worse, but some (supposedly) decent movies 'made the list' for similar reasons <chuckle>

Maybe after I've watched it a dozen more times, I'll actually care about those. He expects ritual combat, but is arrested for his crimes instead. Cue break-out, rampage, steals suit, flees into jungle, some part sacred to the Black Panthers. T'Challa goes in after him alone.
He has Black Panther's strength, but Killmonger has a suit and decades of combat experience. Thus the film climaxes as a one-on-one cat vs cat. | | | | Joined: May 2014 Posts: 5,158 Likes: 1 Confusingly Confused Moderator | Confusingly Confused Moderator Joined: May 2014 Posts: 5,158 Likes: 1 | Since spoilers are up, I really disliked the fact that the studio tried to make Killmonger sympathetic to the audience at the end.
