[Chandan doesn't get run on water until 9th level, and has no ranged weapons that'll reach that far either. I don't think swimming would be wise.]

Yep. Lumi is carrying a torch, so is Kriv. If you move his token, you should see his "aura" move on the map. There are 2 levels, bright (20'r) and dim (40'r). Kriv also has one. It's probably a great idea to find a spellcaster that has light as a cantrip and to cast it on something like a sword or shield. smile

Before you guess what is and isn't possible, it's probably best to ask.

We are still in initiative order. Ryssa goes, followed by Bern.

Ryssa

The cleric moved a few steps toward the dark pit and, wielding her mace of Lathander, she called for light and cast that light toward the pit.

Davroar

He will rush along the cliffs edge in his bear form reaching a point where he shifts back to his human form and casts his thorn whip spell with his intention to pull the drow right off his raft and into the water.
Just how much of a swimmer the drow is will be interesting to find out.

Davroar Thorn whip
Dugan rolled 1d20+4 and got 12

Not sure what the drows AC is?

Bern hits the drow with one of his two shots as he was setting up the makeshift raft to take advantage of the upcoming wave.

It wasn't going to be an easy ride for the drow but he was hopeful that he would be able to escape from the grasp of the topsiders this way. Davroar reached the cliff edge and transformed back into his normal form. There he tried to summon the forces of nature to try and stop the drow but the thorn whip narrowly missed the target and the drow was now ready to ride the wave.

The surge came and it was large. The drow had positioned the raft in such a way that it would be safe from the wave as it crashed but with a dexterous move he would be able to clime aboard and ride the wave out with the help of his aquatic friend. As it ebbed, the drow attempted to climb aboard and ride it. His first attempt looked like it might succeed but it didn't. He fell off the board and into the water but managed to climb back ashore as his friend steadied the raft.

Nezznar the black spider dex check DC 15
Neptune rolled 1d20+1 and got 10

OOC: It wasn't quite Davroar's turn. The wave hits right after Bern took his shots but I adjusted since the drow didn't make his roll. We're back to the top of the order. Chandan goes but we'll skip Davroar who would have been next.

Chandan

All he can do is hurl a couple of his darts. At least he has the height advantage.

It still seems like a shot in the dark, though might more accurately be described as a throw in the gloom.

[Chandan rolls to hit with disadvantage, 15(scrap 17) and 18(scrap 24) total. Not sure what target AC is.]

Kriv

They needed light, and more importantly they needed their enemy illuminated, dissuaded from escape, inconvenienced and harmed. The impromptu raft was his lifeline, his means of escape, and a big, flammable object made of wood. Kriv uttered the familiar syllables of his favoured cantrip, and gestured towards the drow's ride...

Aiming at an object not currently worn or carried. Intention is to ignite it to provide light and make holding onto it harmful.

She can see without Whisper's eyes now as there is light in the cavern. So she moves forward and uses her bow, ideally before this creature can hurt any more of her friends. She directs Whisper to provide a distraction so that she can use her arrows to best effect. She still intends to hide though as she is in fear of him casting any more fire at them.

The makeshift raft starts to blaze as Kriv casts his spell. The fire won't last very long as the wave isn't far from returning but it's enough light for Jaliera to use to aim her bow. The arrow flies down towards it's target and it strikes the drow.

For a brief moment Nezznar's face tenses up with fury but that moment is fleeting ... as is his life. He clutches his chest, where the arrow found it's target, tries to pull it out but it's too late. He tumbles forward, into the blaze on the raft, before falling dead onto the raft.

The aquatic humanoid that was pulling the raft is still mostly submerged, only his head is visible in the water and most of his body is shielded by the raft.

Nundro appears from behind the group and moves towards the ledge just in time to see the demise of the Black Spider. As the drow slumps over, Gundren's brother raises both arms in the air triumphantly and lets out a mighty dwarven roar of exultation and follows it up with "FOR THARDEN!!!!", the name of his brother, who's corpse was left to rot at the entrance to the mines. Tears of joy are running down his face as he turns to the party and says "Thank you!".

OOC: 75% cover which = -5 to him.

The Drow is dead. And aside from one last set of shots (Lumi, Bern and Ryssa) at the doppleganger (the aquatic humanoid) the melee, and essentially the MODULE are finished. We'll wind down over the rest of this week but CONGRATULATIONS to all of you for completing the adventure!

I'll post something soon about what's next, but I have to do one very important thing and that is to thank Zeim for sharing this adventure with me. He's the best D&D DM that I know and I couldn't have done this without him. and yes, this JUST IN TIME TO WISH HIM A HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! After we merged the games, Zeim picked up the slack when I wasn't able to and, I think, helped everyone learn and understand the system, which was new when we started but is quite seasoned now.

And thank you all too! This was the second adventure that I fully completed on DreamLyrics. I came very close with my FFC game (Four From Cormyr) I just never ran the final encounter because of the confluence of real life and gaming necessities. The first game that I finished running was the COD (The Crack of Doom) and that was when I was very young. Your dedication to the game was awesome!!!

Let's tie this all in a neat little bow, reunite the Rockseeker brothers, lavish the heroes with praise and gold. Then we'll see about what's next.

Yes, congratulations to all, and many, many thanks to Neptune. I'll return the compliment as a D&D DM he is one of the best around.

Thanks, also, to everyone for keeping up the level of play. A lot of combat in this campaign, especially in the last third, with a few puzzles tossed in for variety. I know many of you prefer to get more role-playing and inter-character chatting in than was available here, so thanks even more for sticking it out.

As a test bed for D&D 5.0 I think it was a success. We learned together how the game plays out, it's rules, and how it works in on-line play.

While he would have liked to have been the one to end the bastard, he smiled when Jaliera finished ended it and gave her a wink. His smile broadened when Nundro expressed his feelings with =enthusiasm=. He accepts his thanks with a nod.

Ryssa

The cleric of Lathander held her magical mace aloft and shook it in celebration. She had never thought they would make it, but she and her friends had done it.

Ryssa wished oh so intently that the rest of her companions had survived to this moment where they could've celebrated with her and her new friends.

[I really appreciate the work and the expertise exhibited by our two wonderful DMs. It is extremely rare to be able to make it to the end of a module in message gaming and I agree with the others; thanks Neptune and Zeim![/b]

Davroar

Lets out his own whoop of joy as Jaliera's shot does the drow in. Sitting down at the edge of the cliff he lets the combat stress subside within him as he watches for a minute the burning raft slowly moving farther away into the dark. Standing back up he thanks Jaliera for her great shot and gives Nundro a nod as well.

"Glad that's done. Let's get the hell out of here then."

[ooc: Zeim and Neptune, thank you for such a fun and excellent adventure! ]

[OOC Hurrah to us all! grin And thanks to the GMs smile ]

Jaliera

There is something satisfying about seeing her arrow hit home, even though she feels that maybe it is wrong to feel that. However she cannot be unhappy that the Drow is dead and unable to cause any more misery to others. She turns and smiles at Nandro, glad that he feels some closure.

She recalls Whisper, thanking her for all of her help.

Then as Davroar comes to her with his thanks, she hugs him, liking the feel of his warmth and his scent so close, before turning to the others.

"We all did it together. None of us could have done it alone and only by working together have we achieved all we did. Thank you friends."

With a thought, he recalled his staff and maul to his hands, tucking the former away with his bow and cleaning the latter.

"Excellent shot, clean kill." He acknowledged with a tilt of his head to Jaliera, before turning his attention to the Rockseekers.

"Norixius Keep pays its honour debts. What are your plans now for this place?"

Chandan

His eyesight is a bit poor at such range in half-darkness, but he's buoyed by everyone else's reaction and assumes it means the Black Spider has been slain, evil vanquished for one day.

"A close run thing. Well done, my friends." He says, bowing his head to them respectfully.

The old monk looks wistful at Nundro's thanks.

"Ah. For Tharden, and all those we lost on this journey. Lingo, Kallista, Butch, who gave their lives in bringing us together as one force.

"Karok and Balthazar, who lent us their aid freely until they were called away by troubles of their own.

"They are gone now, but here we stand. Come, let us talk as we walk, and put this dark place behind us."

"You honor clan Norixius," the miner says looking up at the dragonborn. "Braver folk I have not met!" he adds, to all the others.

As Chandan mentions his fallen brother and the others lost, he lowered his head, offering a moment of silence and remembering them.

"Offering Tharden a proper send-off and then reuniting with Gundren are the only things I want to do at this moment. I will need to discuss the future of this place with him.

"Nundro, is there anything you wish to do here to honour your brother or would you like us to take his body back to Gundren?"

She knows how important it is to be able to say goodbye properly. She never had that chance with her parents.

He takes a moment from his 'watching' to add a comment to the discussion. "This is still a dangerous place. I think it is time to get out of here."

Nundro

"We should bury him here. This was once a dwarf-hold and he loved it. Gundren will come back with me to pay his respects. I don't think we'll abandon these mines. Let us make our way out. There are still dangers here, but I suppose we can avoid them."

DM
The periodic booming of another wave crashing into the walls echoes through the mines. The raft, the body of the drow and the doppleganger disappear now into the darkness, swept away by the ebb of the wave. There was a kinship between that doppleganger and the Black Spider. Where he is off to now and what he will do seem to matter little now that the drow has been dispatched.

There are parts of the mine left undiscovered, still teeming with undead and other nefarious creatures. The heroes know that if there is any attempt to open these mines, it would need to be cleared out. They could probably do it, but what the party needed most now is a good night's sleep and to recover.

They could do so inside or outside the mines but rest is an absolute need.

"Then I agree with Bern. Lets head out to the cave and get some rest, bury your brother and then head back to town."

A good nights sleep is just what they all need.
