Good move! Please provide me with 5 perception rolls for Whisper since she is actively scouting. Her "floor" will be the passive perception roll (13). And yes, please roll with advantage each time.

OOC: Just an FYI, I asked for 5 to plan for the next few possible checks in advance. We're at check #1. Also, I'll assume that when you send Whisper out to scout that you pause to look through her eyes on these rolls.

As they enter the large, dark cavern, Jaliera sends Whisper out to scout in a way that none others can. The young trickster pauses as she looks through the eyes of the owl at the broader cavern. It takes a moment for the bird to fly about and peer carefully into the crevices. Then she sees movement on the other side of the cavern, in the entry way that the PC's first peered into the cavern. It is guarded by a bugbear that, over confident, was not doing a good job of hiding. Whisper spotted him focused on the globe of light that had entered the cavern. He pauses to study the group for just a moment and then turns around to leave. Obviously he's off to report his findings. Then, continuing to scout, she sees more movement, in the other entrance way. That bugbear was being stealthy and were it not for the owl's awesome vision, it would have remained hidden. Clearly, guards have been posted.

Speed is of the essence then. They must secure their position atop the far ledge before it can be fortified.

Taking the rope, Chandan scales the wall to the more northerly ledge. Climbing, falling, to the wizened monk they're part of the same cycle. Given the perspective the rest of the party have at the bottom, and the fact Chandan had reliquished his loincloth earlier, they might want to avert their gaze.

Once to the top, he will fix the rope and stand guard while his friends ascend.

[Rolled natural 18.
If he falls, will use Slow Fall and go again.]

She will position Whisper at the top of the ledge where the sentry had disappeared so they can have early warning of any enemy approach, whilst she watches the remaining bow, bow at the ready, waiting to take a shot whenever he is in range.

With Bern covering them, she will opt to cross as soon as she can do she can fire on the sentry and keep contact with Whisper.

An important reminder. unless you have darkision, you see nothing. Only Whisper and Jaliera through her eyes, does. None of you can target anyone. You see blackness and until they are in your field of light, that remains true. On the other hand, they see you clear as can be. Second, the bugbears are above trying to be stealthy. If you could/can see them, you realize that they would have the benefit of partial cover.

(OOC - MikeD - I would rule that firing into complete darkness would, at a minimum, place you under the "Blinded" condition. That would mean you shoot with Disadvantage.)

She might need Whisper's eyes to climb and then to fire. So a quick scout of the corridor first and then Jaliera will call her back.

He does not want to waste his superior physical fighting while as a bear, and simply gives Jaliera a soft brush with the back of his paw upon her shoulder to show his reluctance in letting her go alone against the unseen sentry.
Davroar will be ready though to quickly climb up on his own in case Jaliera calls for help.

MikeD, To answer your question more you would be a disadvantage and will be considered heavily obscured because they are hiding. That gives them a +5 to AC. It'll take a miracle shot to hit, which is the point.

With no-one objecting, Jaliera begins her climb using the rope that Chandan had set. After checking with Whisper that she can hear or see nothing of enemies approaching, she will call her back to assist, particularly with shooting the sentry.

Jaliera moves forward and as she does, Whisper tells her that the bugbears have left. They are no longer in the openings. It seems clear that they were sentries, left to stand guard. Now they have gone to report back. Whatever surprise you might have expected to have you will not have. Your enemies will be lying in wait, expecting your arrival, and are going to be very well prepared for the encounter. As for climbing, the ropes that were there previously on the other side are gone. There are ropes available to climb down into the rift below where the river flows but there are no ropes on the other side to climb up. Any that were there were removed. That was probably one of the jobs that the two bugbears had before they were told to stand guard. If Jaliera decides to climb up the slippery wall, she will need strength in her hands to keep a grip, lest she plummets.

ooc: Climbing without a rope requires a strength check. The following was copied, verbatim, from the module: The rift is 20 feet deep . Climbing up or down without using a rope requires a successful DC 10 Strength (Athletics) check. A creature that fails the check by 5 or more falls and takes 1d6 bludgeoning damage per 10 feet fallen, landing prone at the bottom.
