Back in Phandelin Gundren Rockseeker is reunited with his friend Sildar Hallwinter, who has settled in nicely in the Townmaster Hall. It is evident that law and order has been restored to the town. The tension that had hung like a pall in the air in the town had been lifted since the demise of the Redbrands, and when the heroes returned, they were met with smiles and laughter. Even the sun seemed to shine brighter.

Sildar greeted Gundren with a hearty handshake first but the two quickly embraced. "To the Stonehill Inn!" Sildar exclaimed. He didn't take "no" for an answer and even the most reserved of the heroes found themselves unable to decline the invitation. Soon the group was at the inn, huddled around a number of tables that Tolban Stonehill, the proprietor had hastily pushed together. A crowd was gathering quickly at the inn as word of the party's return spread through the town. It was early afternoon, but work had stopped. Today was a day of celebration!

Several pitchers of ale found their way to the tables, Gundren grabbed one for himself, shunning the use of a stein, deeming it "too small" as he inhaled half of the contents in a single swig. A thick layer of beer froth dripped from his hairy upper lips above the broad smile on his face. "Ahhhhhh!" he exclaimed as he slammed the pitcher back down on the table.

As the villagers cajoled the heroes to tell their tales, Sildar threw a large purse filled with gold onto the table, "Your reward, as promised!" Later, the heroes would count the gold and it added up to 1,000 GP, a quite sizable reward.

Food and drink flowed in the inn and the heroes were prohibited from contributing funds to pay for it. Likewise, their rooms would be free at the inn this night. They were honored town guests and they would treated as such.

After about an hour, things started to calm down and matters turned serious again. As happy as he was to have been rescued. The fact that his brothers were still missing tempered Gundren's joy.

ooc: A number of you posted good "lead-in's" in the last thread. Make believe that I didn't read that last thread and feel free to be redundant here wink

Jaliera

She is happy to join in the celibrations, though she also takes a moment to remember her previous companions such as Karok, their earlier dwarven companion that had to leave.. and then Kallista, the striking looking tiefling who had given Jaliera a lot of encouragement at the start and then lost her life during the encounter with the dragon and the cultists. She does not drink alcohol and so she silently raises a glass of juice in Kallista's memory and wishes Karok a long and happy future wherever he is.

The new companions they had found when encountering the dragon seem a good bunch and they had all worked well together and Gundren is here as evidence of that! Much to celebrate.

And she has Davroar by her side. She does not know what the future holds for them but she hopes he is in it. She leans her head on his shoulder. Such a happy evening.

Later as things quieten down, she asks Gundren a question.

"What are your plans Gundren? Is there more that we can help you with?"

The part of him that had been looking forward to the return to 'civilization' was enjoying the food and drink and still looking forward to the a hot bath and warm bed next. But apparently those 'perks' were still a ways off. There were still things that the others apparently wanted to resolve tonight. With a sigh, he refilled him mug and leaned back on the table, ready to listen ... and if needed ... offer an opinion or information.

"'Tis my brothers, Nundro and Tharden, that I worry about lass. I know not what their fate is," he answers Jaliera.

After eating sparingly, the cleric sipped at a mug of ale as she watched the others celebrate. An idea occurred to her during a lull in the noise.

"After we rest up and recover, perhaps we could see the Sister..." Ryssa paused a moment, frowning as she searched through snippets of memory.

"Sister Garaele, that was her name. She had the problem with the vain banshee. I still have the silver comb she offered as an inducement to recover the spell book."

He watched the friends celebrating that they had been reunited. His slit pupil eyes ran over the more obvious changes in the little village. That was all good, he was glad to have been a part of making this little piece of the world better.

Free food and drink always meant good tidings, he indulged. They had worked hard for this reward, and in his mind, the people needed it too. He sampled the fare, drinking, and eating, but keeping his wits about himself.

"As far as plans. I need to get my armor mended and replenish my supplies, tomorrow. After that, I am willing to go where I am needed."

Between sips, he considered Luminmorn's intended plans. It occurred to him that he could use some arrows, and maybe stop by a weapon smith and make sure his rapier was in top shape.

He lies slumped over the table, facedown, his tangled hair piled around him along with several empty cider flagons.

The Dragonborn noble seemed thoughtful, eating sparingly of the fare on offer, his eyes on Sildar and Gundren. Technically the terms of their journey had been met, but the underlying debt of honour owed by Norixius Keep was still extant.

Glancing at Ryssa,

"Ah, the Banshee. She gave us what we sought, but wasn't happy about it."

"Ah, I see," the cleric said to the dragon born. "I am pleased you were able to help the Sister."

"We were going to try and help her, but somehow, we kept getting distracted."

"Probably for the best, I do not want to hear that again, and wouldn't wish it on anyone."

He glanced briefly at the slumbering vagrant, considered for a moment, and shrugged.

Davroar

Shape changing into a bear too many times has given him a bearish appetite, so he indulges more on the food than the drinks. He leans back in his chair with a good feeling of being overfed along with a slight buzz from the beer. When Jaliera leans over to him, Davroar will lightly hold her hand at his side, and playfully traces a druidic rune of joy with his forefinger upon the back of her hand.

For the time being he is content to just listen to the others, and will plan to join Luminmorn tomorrow in getting his armour fixed too.

It sounds like they might be going to be heading out again to help Gundren find his brothers.

"Davroar and I looked for your brothers briefly before we set out to try to rescue you. They had not restocked at the store for a few days and we could not find any traces of them locally."

She looks around the others.

"It sounds like we all need a day or so to get our gear replenished and sorted.. and while we are doing that tomorrow we can check again to see if they have been into town."

She smiles at Gundren. It must be nice to have family. She really misses hers.

When Davroar traces a pattern on the back of her hand, she smiles up at him. This mission has turned into so more than she had ever imagined. True there have been some bad moments but overall she feels she has come into her own. And being here with Davroar, she has no immediate desire to go back to her mentor just yet.

Gundren

Grundren repeated what he said when he was first rescued. "Nudro and Tharden went ahead to Wave Echo Cave to scout things out and I have not heard any news of them. While I was captured I heard talk of someone called the Black Spider. Whoever that is, they orchestrated my capture and know about the Cave. I worry that they might find the Forge and use it for evil ends. My brothers may not have much time, and I do not have the skills to help them. I beg you, please help."

It seemed like there was more to accomplish, he thought as finished his mug. He set it down and pushed it away. With things to do, another mug would only 'get in the way'.

"Well I am willing to do what I can. Maybe those that have essential errands could do them in the morning? I can check around town to see if there is news of your brothers."

She smiles at the dwarf, hoping to reassure him.

"I pledged my aid to the endeavor, and this seems to be a part of the ongoing whole. I will offer my weapon and shield as well as my patron's help, to honor The Great Dragon. I am willing to go without the essential repairs, and supplies, if it is deemed necessary. I have lived on less." He wanted to get his armor fixed, but he lived in the wilderness for years, so he could certainly do so again.

As the discussion continues, there's a consensus that haste is needed but that the heroes need rest a long rest and need time to finish their errands.

The innkeeper's wife contributes that rooms upstairs have been readied for the party.

As more townsfolk roll into the inn, it becomes clear that nobody has seen any of the dwarf brothers for a long time. While deflating to Gundren, he thanks Jaliera for her concern but adds, "They would only return here once they found the gold. I can only surmise that they're at the Wave Echo Cave. ooc: to spare time, they are not here.

"Once I have completed my devotionals to Lathander, my deity, and have one full sleep, I will be honored to set out to look for your siblings, Gundren."

Davroar

With a casual gesture to the passed out old man, he says, "Chandan has already called it a night. Should do the same. Get an early start with supplies and head out as soon as we can then?"

With his other hand he pokes four fingers through one of several slit in his armour. Davroar figures he could buy the materials he needs to repair this himself when they rest for a night en-route to Wave Echo Cave. He just needs a few more items from the general outfitter and he will be good to go for tomorrow morning.

Her eyes twinkle a little. She does have a soft spot for the old monk.

"Davroar, maybe you and I should help Chandan get to his bed? I just need to get some arrows tomorrow. Hopefully any opposition we meet will not hit you just there."

She indicates the hole he had been examining.

As the day wore long, some of the adventurers went to their rooms to start their rest. Others wanted to visit people in the town that they had made promises to. Others would stay in the taproom of the inn to enjoy the food and drink being served.

While he wanted to celebrate his achievements, he didn't do so. Instead, as the others started to head to bed, he took his leave as well. Too many people made him uncomfortable, and a bed sounded like a place he wanted to be.

The Dragonborn sought Sildar, to give him a more thorough debrief of what had happened, including the concern that a new chieftain had taken the crown of the old, with Cragmaw Keep still in verminous hands, recounting the nature of the opposition they had faced at Thundertree, and as much meticulous detail as his local superior in the Lord's Alliance may wish to hear. There was certainly time for levity, but as ever, Kriv remained focused, the slumbering besotted monk a constant reminder of the risk of letting things slip too far.
