Having had to return to corporeality to hunt, the ginger tom was now able to attempt the ritual, having a grounding in the art. The disadvantage was he was now getting rained on, and this did nothing good for his temper.

It would keep burdens from stepping off into oblivion. It might keep things from returning to the cat's world, from where ever it was, that it went. The cats are reasonably sure the ritual went off very well given their cooperation.
