Luminmorn avoids taking any damage from the Nothic's gaze attack. Bern is up.

MikeD - Standing takes 1/2 your move. You can draw your weapon for free. You cannot see anything to target. You are at the bottom of a 20 foot deep crevasse with steep, although rough walls. It is easily climbable, without needing to make an ability check. However is will take 20 feet of your move to do so and you only have 15 feet left. Your options are to climb up as far as you can, leaving you 5 feet short of the top, or explore down where you are.

[[ just checking ... there would have been a chance ... angles and all from my standing position to see the thing if it was close enough to the edge ... hope springs eternal <g> ]]

<Bern>

Standing, it was clear he didn't have a target ... and he didn't want to be 'clinging to the wall' when 'it' wanted to come after him again. He looked around to see if there was anything here he could use to advantage. Other wise he would have to think about climbing the far side of the chasm.

Stopping to look around Bern is able to see the details of the crevasse fairly clearly, due to Balthazar having tossed a light coin down here with him.

There are bones scattered about, and it is very cold. Unnaturally so. Bern can see a bit further north of him a body that looks as if it's been partially gnawed upon.

A bit further north of that, in a small recess under the northern bridge he can make out what looks like a wooden chest.

So, exploration is Bern's turn (MikeD - You can move along the crevasse as you explore. It is considered difficult terrain.). We are up to Lingo then Ryssa.

Once he sees the ugly critter, he shoots an arrow at it and hides again.

Balthazar

He will cast Chromatic Orb at it defensively, trying to edge away when he can.

OOC: Chromatic orb - 1d20+5 to hit = 11. Damage 3d8 = 22

Lingo hits with his arrow, driving it into the creature's side. Balthazar conjures an Orb of (? I think you need to pick what the orb is made of, Ken), but his toss goes wide (not critical for this attack, but if you hit it might be as the creature could be immune to certain things).

Luminmorn and Ryssa can act.

Ryssa

Ryssa glanced downward as the ranger fell into the crevasse but, even though she would like to see to his injuries, she had bigger and closer problems.

Taking quick aim, she fired an arrow at the monster.

Luminmorn's swing misses but Ryssa's arrow thuds home. Two arrows now embedded in it's hide, the Nothic sweeps one powerful arm at Balthazar, again attempting to knock him into the crevasse.

Nothic Shove
Zeim rolled d20+2 and got 16.

(Balthazar needs to make another opposed Str or Dex check and at least tie a 16.)

With its other arm it strikes at Luminmorn, and hits a slashing blow. (Luminmorn takes 6 points of damage.)
Nothic Attack Luminmorn
Zeim rolled d20+4 and got 18.

It swivels it's gaze towards one of those who hit it with an arrow, and a fell shudder passes through Ryssa.
(Ryssa must make a DC 12 Con Save or take 10 points of necrotic damage)

Note: Once we resolve what happens with Ryssa and Balthazar, Bern will be up.

Initiative

Nothic - 21 (19 points of damage)
Bern - 20
Lingo - 19
Ryssa - 18
Balthazar - 9
Luminmorn - 4

Ryssa

When she saw her arrow thunk home, Ryssa felt a moment of excitement, but then the Nothic turned and glared at her and she shuddered, taking a step back before gathering herself and throwing off the attack.

Balthazar tumbles down into the crevasse, taking 7 points of damage and landing on a jumble of sharp bones and rubble. Ryssa overcomes the Nothic's gaze.

Everyone can now act, starting with Bern.

Initiative

Nothic - 21 (19 points of damage)
Bern - 20
Lingo - 19
Ryssa - 18
Balthazar - 9
Luminmorn - 4

Lingo

Liking his strategy of hiding in the shadows and plunking the Nothic with arrows, Lingo fires another shot and ducks away.

Ryssa

And another of her companions was pushed into the crevasse. Ryssa was getting more and more enraged at the Nothic and worried about her friends.

She nocked another arrow, aimed and fired and shook her fist in the air at another solid hit.

<Bern>

Making note that there is something down here that is in need of more investigation, Bern climbs of the far side of the chasm and fires his bow at the creature [[ if possible after the climb Bern Fire at foe MikeD rolled d20+5,d8+3 and got 23, 9 ]]

Yes.

Bern climbs up onto the other side of the crevasse, and fires. His arrow, along with Lingo's and Ryssa's all strike the Nothic in quick succession. It staggers, and topples over, dead.

What next?

He smiles with some satisfaction when the thing falls. "He Balthazar", he calls, "since you are still down there, there is something under the bridge to the north. It might be worth checking out before you climb out."

[[ he is going to cast cure wounds on himself ... what is his 'caster ability modifier? I think it is wis ... right? Bern Cure wounds on self MikeD rolled d8 and got 2 Plus 1 ... or what ever. ]]

"Who else is in need", he asked. "I can heal one more time today."

He picked up the coin that had been thrown down here and tossed it where Bern indicated to see what was there. The other coin was with him so it was dimly lit up above.
