But on a slightly serious note, the glamping dome in that photo is the same size as a Leomund's Tiny Hut so it's quite spacious. Great spell for wilderness travel. | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 14,888 Likes: 9 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 14,888 Likes: 9 | Hah!
I was visiting a friend's last week, and guess what, she has one of those up!
I had never seen one in person.
And yes they are quite spacious. | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 10,181 Likes: 10 Maris Imperium Member | Maris Imperium Member Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 10,181 Likes: 10 | Zindra

A fog rolls into the clearing, obscuring the animals. An elf, dressed in red, approaches, accompanied by a bard, singing
Goldie the gold horned reindeer Had some very shiny horns. And if you ever saw them, You'd say they shined like the morn.
The elf appears to have magic, casting "Fly" on all nine reindeer. Soon they can be seen rising above the fog, speeding off to give presents to children and ogres.

I got a paperback for Christmas and its pages are already coming loose. Was from Dark Horse Publishing; they've been around long to know better, you'd have thought. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,106 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,106 Likes: 5 | Nem ... could be that they made a mistake ... cutting a bit =too= much on production costs to keep the price down ... not realizing how much it would affect the final product <shrug>

It's an excellent guide. There are issues, like calculating CR for a monsters and the like, lack of non-combat encounter design and so on. But there's a lot of great stuff for the creative DM to use.

Shame though because you can't sell or pass on a book with loose leaves, so it's ultimate destination has to be the bin really.
Nep, you had a read through the new starter set yet? | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,920 Likes: 1 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,920 Likes: 1 | No, I have not. Are you thinking of running it? If so, I'm in!

I did get the Symbaroum starter set for Christmas. It's a fantasy RPG with classes and races not unlike D&D but does have some interesting mechanics. It's "roll low" but I won't hold that against it. What I like is that the GM doesn't roll any dice in combat. The players simply roll defence, modified by the monster's abilities and damage/effects are triggered by the specific result. So the players are always involved in the action, even during the GM's phase.

She can use both spells or use Sleep twice, the second time for anyone who escaped the first one or was out of the AOE. | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 10,181 Likes: 10 Maris Imperium Member | Maris Imperium Member Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 10,181 Likes: 10 | Zeim offers great advice. It may not be obvious from the screencap of the grid (sorry) but the two warriors are 35 feet apart. Colour spray is a 15 foot cone, which requires Jaliera to get within 15 feet to cast, plus there's no geometric way to hit both with the same spell in the same turn. It would take the full one of her two turns just to get close enough; she could cast one but the other would be able to see and give chase; she could keep alternating which one she cast on (until she ran out of spell slots) but they only last until the end of the next turn. Plus being blinded doesn't prevent them from calling for help in the off chance (hahaha) there are others nearby. Sleep, on the other hand, is a 20 foot radius from a point within range, so could be cast immediately from where Jaliera is, and twice if needed, without having to waste a turn on movement. And when you're asleep, no one can hear you scream. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,218 Likes: 55 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,218 Likes: 55 | [OOC the other idea I had was to change self to appear as one of them and beckon them over.. but they may not come or having them where Jaliera is might not be good for our escape, so the sleep plan is a good solution, especially as she can see if it works first! ] Jaliera She casts sleep at the hunters. | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 10,181 Likes: 10 Maris Imperium Member | Maris Imperium Member Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 10,181 Likes: 10 | She casts sleep at the hunters. Please post this in the main thread. I'll need a roll: 5d8 if level 1 spell slot, add 2d8 per level for higher slots. Since everyone else is surprised and you're first in initiative order, you will actually have two turns, so if the first spell fails, you can try again. But for now just do one roll. | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 10,181 Likes: 10 Maris Imperium Member | Maris Imperium Member Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 10,181 Likes: 10 | the other idea I had was to change self to appear as one of them and beckon them over I was trying to figure out what you could do with Mage Hand. I mean, tap the guy on the shoulder and then tease the hand at stealing those golden antlers? To me, the situation screams out for us to save the Reindeer with the Golden Horns, even if it means fighting all of the Barbarians. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,920 Likes: 1 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,920 Likes: 1 | OK, putting Zindra, a hireling aside? Does Jaliera's alignment, upbringing and knowledge nudge her in that direction?

My gut instinct is that everyone should roll and the result should be based on half of the party succeeding at the level for which I give information. (PHB p. 175 Group Checks).
Obviously that's not possible when the initial check was done remotely from the group so I can't take back the information given.
Other alternative is letting whoever has the highest modifiers roll, in which case if Davroar has lower or equal Int Dice than Zindra I'd say the result stands as is, otherwise I'll allow another roll.
Or what I'm pushing for in the other conversation is asking a different question than "tell us about golden horned reindeer" so it's a different roll. For example I asked for a History roll earlier, so any other aspect that might be relevant to ask about? | | |
