SHOUTBOX

Located in the left column of the Dreamlyrics screen, near the top, we have our new chat facility.

The Shoutbox has 4 main components: the Shoutbox, the input box, the Shout Button and Reset Button.

The Shoutbox contains a maximum of 30 messages: Older messages scroll off the top.

You can click on the name at the head of each message to bring up that name's user info page.

You can hold the mouse over any one post to see the time stamp for when it was posted.

The input box is the white rectangle beneath the main shoutbox area. You can type in here and press enter to leave a message, or use the Shout button imediately below. The Reset button just clears the contents of the input box.

Everything typed here is visible to all members of the site, and updates in real time without needing to refresh.

One of the questions we are asked the most is how to type smileys in the Shout Box.

To do this go to any post, click on reply, then select @Switch To Full Reply Screen'.

Once this is displayed, click on the smiley in the beige square top left of the reply box. This brings up all the smileys. Hover over any smiley with your cursor and (assuming your browser settings are set to allow this) it will bring up the syntax that you need to type into the Shout Box to make the smiley appear. Please note most of them have a colon : before and after the word.

I almost always use the 'Switch to Full Reply Screen' anyway as it has the advantage of always being at the top of your screen which allows you to see the Shout Box whilst doing your posting.
