This is Round Thirty Eight of the Neverending Movie Chain. Feel free to jump in anywhere you want, post once or post as often as you want just don't reply to yourself.
For any new folks joining in <and new folks are definitely encouraged to do so>...
We start by naming a movie, the next player to jump in has to name an actor in that film and the next to follow him/her has to name a different movie that actor was in.
EX:
Player one: Star Wars, Player Two: Mark Hamill, Player Three: Corvette Summer, Player Four: Annie Potts, Player Five: Ghostbusters, etc., etc.
Repeats are allowed but discouraged and there has to be a distance of at least five steps before you use a movie or an an actor a second time. No IMDb please <expect to look up dates of movies with identical titles or spellings of names>.
You need to follow the chain as it is drawn, no jumping. If we have Stephen Moyer on the table and someone plays Prince Valiant then the Prince Valiant you have to go out of is the one that had Stephen Moyer in it, no matter how many other movies out there are named Prince Valiant.
A clarification on play. We want to avoid using archival footage. For purposes of our game Dick Clark, Bob Hope, President Kennedy etc. Did not appear in Forrest Gump.
I won't make this a rule but rather a recommendation. Please avoid films that have not been released/aired in the U.S.
And just for the sake of putting it into the written rules mostly for sake of newcomers voice work (animated films) and made-for-TV movies are allowed but not mini-series.
Oh, and the idea is not to stump everyone but to keep the chain going for as long as possible.
Well, I hesitate to head toward the beach because I can't personally remember any other beachgoers. And I know at least two old classic Disney films she's been in, one live and one as a voice.
But the odds are probably best going back to marital (non)bliss:
Back in the day, she was in this movie about sexual harrassment in the workplace (sort of) and they put an ad for it on a hoarding over a big junction in town. The ad featured Demi's taut butt and thighs. Fender-benders immediately ensued so the council had to order it taken down. True story.
He is more well known for writing and directing, but did have an uncredited cameo in one of my top ten all time movies that I might just put on now, because fighting in a basement offers a lot of difficulties.
Not my favorite of the many collaborations between Tom and Meg Ryan
(For the record, having met my wife on the internet one of the first movies we saw together involved these two and electronic communication. I won't name it in case it's the next movie but don't make it the next movie because I can't remember anyone else on the cast!)
yes, he played the antagonist, Hedley Lamar, a corrupt politician who was trying to buy out the land from the residents of Rock Ridge so that when the railroad came through he could make a lot of money selling to them.
He also didn't have man movie roles. he is most notable as a sketch comedian and character actor on TV shows. His major claim to fame comes from playing on the Carol Burnett show, Tim Conway show, and Harvey Korman show- but Carol Burnett's show was the most famous. He was in several Mel Brooks films but this might be a tough whirlpool to get out of. He was an excellent straight man to tim conway. they loved to try and break each other up during the live skits on tv. Below is a favorite sketch of mine- The Dentist
I could drop another Mel Brooks movie, but i worry that he circle of people in Mel Brooks movies was rather insular... Mel liked to use the same actors in his campy off beat films. I also know of a bit part he had in a much more well known movie... not a great one, but one that people will recognize.
Well, I know 3 other movies she was in, but only one that I could name a different actor in. I was waiting to see if anyone else wanted to go a different direction first... but I'm hoping by sticking with mice we can escape to a more well known cast member.
Eva also was Miss Bianca in the original The Rescuers, and her main partner was voiced by....
aside from being in McHale's Navy sitcom... he did a lot of Disney live action movies... including a recurring role of Dean Higgins across three movies(i think it was just three).
so let's go with one of my wife's favorite movies as a kid...
It stands for Son of a .... If you have not seen it, it's a fun Blake Edwards movie (Julie's husband at the time) about an actress (Julie) who made her fortune and fame by playing family favorite characters when the 80s hit and suddenly the interest in family movies went down and sex-comedies were the box office hits. What is the world's sweetheart to do? Find out in S.O.B.
Definitely a satire on the career issues Julie had at that time.
okay, i chuckled when i saw this one played because Mina is always good for a tough one.
i know two more actors in this besides julie andrews. one has a much more notable resume of films but SOB was his last film i think. but this might not be much help if this actor doesn't trigger anyone's memory... a bit of downward spiral...i don't know, maybe you guys have it all figured out.
the other is a very well known character actor but, as is the way with character actors- you know their face and not necessarily their name.
here's the deal... i know 2... quick public poll-- older leading actor w/ older movies... or well known character actor????
in all honesty, i think more people will know the character actor's movies- some of which are well known... but it is a matter of putting a name to a face and realizing where else they've seen this character actor. unless they are 50s, 60s, and 70s film buffs then the older actor might be just the ticket
I once made a point of watching all the Academy Award Winning best pictures over that time period, so while I'm not an old film buff I might recognize Oscar winners. If that helps.
I'm fond of movie-musicals, so of course you hit my sweet spot. And Disney acquiring the rights was awesome. Can I use the music from Hello Dolly to jump straight to Wall-E? No? I guess I need an actor.
It was fun seeing Michael Crawford act, but I can't recall any other movies he was in (although I can name a musical!), so perhaps I should pick Barbra Streisand instead. (No, she wasn't in Wall-E.)
Cate's been in so much stuff... I'll be safe yet adventurous with this one. Middle-earth yes, but the lesser watched or lauded The Desolation of Smaug.
And is now a good time to complain about the naming conventions for new films (and video games!)?
Film 1. Pitch Black (Good name, on the money) Film 2. The Chronicles of Riddick (Dodgy name! Sounds like a hillbilly version of Narnia) Film 3. Riddick (They aren't even trying now!)
OK, waited long enough. Pretty sure the main character (or at least the one highlighted in the preview) is Dan Stevens, who I recognize from a certain TV series that was also a movie.
Still no help. You do know the game rules suggest, "Oh, and the idea is not to stump everyone but to keep the chain going for as long as possible," right?
But who else is famous for that other than Carol's actress, who died young? I can use her to jump to one of the sequels, though... but I'll wait to see if someone has a better connection.
I have a feeling we've been here before. I know a few options.
One is well known in an HBO epic series that I can't believe we don't allow as a "movie". But such are the rules.
So I'll go a slightly more obscure route with a Swede: Stellan Skarsgard (not sure I spelled it right, but he played the Grand Duke who conspired with Lady Tremayne and got banished!)
