Well let's go with the one that made me stumble... THE THREE MUSKETEERS (1993)
Well, I'm not as familiar with it as the Disney variant, but I did read the previous thread...
Oliver Platt
He was in Flatliners (1990)
The original Flatliners? That had Kevin Bacon.
While I am tempted to go with Seems Like Old Times, Goldie was also amazing in The First Wives Club
Yay, a chance to reference Dame Maggie Smith!
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone!
I loved the cameo of John Cleese as Nearly Headless Nick.
He reprised the role in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, but I LOVED him in Fierce Creatures.
That had Jamie Lee Curtis in it
Got to do it....
Halloween
RIP Sean. You're a legend.
The Hunt For Red October
One of my submarine colleagues had a license plate: 1PNGNLY.
James Earl Jones was good in that.
James Earl Jones is a legend!
Coming to America
Cuba Gooding Jr was in that one!
You sure, Mina? I guess it was pre-
Boyz n The Hood.
Oh!
Boyz n The Hood. Great soundtrack btw. Still have it on CD.
I remember reading about him getting his start in that movie!
I only know one other actor in Boyz, but know he was in a few later movies.
Ice Cube
She voiced a character in Home.
Captain Smek was voiced by Steve Martin
*bops Mina with the shusher*
Also goes out on a limb with an under-appreciated movie: Mixed Nuts
Perhaps that was not a good limb to go out on.
I know I have seen the movie, but for the life of me I can't even recall what it was about.
A rather messed up Christmas holiday involving crazy in-laws and police involvement. I think National Lampoon's take on a Christmas holiday is funnier, but I found it much more entertaining than most other people, I suppose.
It did feature some A-list comedians, that I had hoped others might know.
Drew Barrymore, of course!
With Bill Murray, who ya gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!
mid 80s... robin williams... but mina is right, a couple others would give options as well... couple of sctv veterans that everyone knows, but robin williams is the easiest.
Hellloooooooo!
Sally Field starred opposite Robin.
<Shrug> the only one I know from that one is Sally Field, but she is the one that go us here, so can't use her.
saw this movie or most of it as a kid. and, as a kid, it was boring to me. there were no colonial warriors or x wings, nor any klingon d7 battlecruisers.
but i remember sally field because i watched the flying nun show... and while i couldn't have placed this guy to save my life back then... i remembered him when he took over command of the SGU after the passing of Don Davis.
Beau Bridges
The Fabulous Baker Boys... literally the only film I remember him from.
Wasn't his brother Jeff Bridges in that with him?
Hehe. Yeah, easy one.
Iron Man
Bonus point Festive challenge!!
Can we stay with a Christmas theme all the way until Boxing Day?
Let it be said that without the Christmas challenge I would have gone with Shakespeare in Love.
But Christmas? How about we honor Charles Dickens with Great Expectations!
(The 1998 version, to be precise.)
Yikes! I know a few actors in that one but I have to think of the Christmas movie afterwards.
I don't think we made it.
But we had fun trying!
New game for the new year?
Sorry, I think Home for the Holidays had Robert Downey Jr. in it?
It did! And it's Boxing day so I think we're released from the Christmas theme requirement?
Let's open this up with a smorgasbord of leftovers:
The Avengers.
Who else is worth of note other than... STAN LEE!
So many cameos to choose from!
Avengers: Endgame.
No help from me on this one, I've done my best to blank that one from my memory
Well she saw the Grim in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
I still think that was the best of the eight films!
I also think Dame Maggie Smith is one of the best actresses in film or TV!
She was also in all of the Harry Potter movies... but she was also in Death on the Nile (1978)
You did read the part where you're supposed to pick movies that others can guess, not stump them, right?
Aqua... I did? It's a classic. Please tell me I am not the only Agatha Christie fan on here? It has a lot of big name stars in it....
I'll trust you that I'm just out of the loop.
Aqua, it is not cheating if you go onto Amazon and watch the movie and then name another actor
For those who don't want to scroll... the movie we are playing off of is
Death on the Nile (1978)
LOL, do we have to not wath the credits?
Sean Connery was the Colonel in one of them, I remember that much.
Neil- sean connery was in 'Murder on the orient express'- was that an official guess on your part? in his defense, it seems Neil sort of hedged his bets by saying that SC was in 'one of them'.
if it's not official, then I can name about 5 different people in Death on the Nile
David Niven
(or maybe Angela Lansbury, or George Kennedy, or Bette Davis, or Peter Ustinov) but the official guess would be David Niven
Aye, PP, I was thinking of Agatha Christie movies of the Seventies.
So pure guess.
Neil- I figured as much. this genre was a big one for as a boy in 70s- my parents watched these movies and i loved Ustinov as Hercule Poirot- the right mix of comedy and serious crime solving. We also watched a lot of columbo growing up as well. I enjoyed movies in this vein, even the sillier ones too.
Ken????? The Bishop's wife- You're killing us! Hah!
that movie is from the 40s... without Don or Exeter playing this will be a real test for the rest of us... I know one name from this movie(and it wasn't David Niven), only because it was played before on DL, a few years back, and i was at a loss then, but one of the above mentioned guys knew it... in fact those two could keep us in the 40s 50s and 60s for several rounds at a time... Let's see if anyone has anything before I play again
Lol, I actually watch The Bishop's Wife every year around Christmas! And I know a lot of people in it... including one of my favorite actresses, Elsa Lanchester!
She was one of the nannies who quit in Mary Poppins! (See, I always bring it back to Disney.)
Glynis Johns played Mrs. Banks.
Okay, going to take you guys way way back.
Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
I remember watching that movie with my brother when I was about five years old, laying on our stomachs in front of the old black and white television at night.
I think we might be broken... I don't think Glynis Johns was in BoF?
No, Glynis Johns was not in that movie... but Elsa Lanchester was (as Mary Shelley) so maybe Ken misread the board.
So are we starting a new game?
By the way, as I type this it's 9:21:21 pm on the US West Coast. That's the 21st second of the 21st minute of the 21st hour of the 21st day of the 21st year of the 21st century.
And of course, we're all 21 years of age. Eerie!!
Yep, I guess we better start anew.
