DreamLyrics™ Play-by-Post

This is Round Twenty-six of the Neverending Movie Chain. Feel free to jump in anywhere you want, post once or post as often as you want just don't reply to yourself. huh

For any new folks joining in <and new folks are definitely encouraged to do so>...

We start by naming a movie, the next player to jump in has to name an actor in that film and the next to follow him/her has to name a different movie that actor was in.

EX:

Player one: Star Wars, Player Two: Mark Hamil, Player Three: Corvette Summer, Player Four: Annie Potts, Player Five: Ghostbusters, etc., etc.

Repeats are allowed but discouraged and there has to be a distance of at least five steps before you use a movie or an an actor a second time. No IMDb please <expect to look up dates of movies with identical titles or spellings of names>. grin

You need to follow the chain as it is drawn, no jumping. If we have Stephen Moyer on the table and someone plays Prince Valiant then the Prince Valiant you have to go out of is the one that had Stephen Moyer in it, no matter how many other movies out there are named Prince Valiant.

A clarification on play. We want to avoid using archival footage. For purposes of our game Dick Clark, Bob Hope, President Kennedy etc. Did not appear in Forrest Gump.

I won't make this a rule but rather a recommendation. Please avoid films that have not been released/aired in the U.S.

And just for the sake of putting it into the written rules mostly for sake of newcomers voice work (animated films) and made-for-TV movies are allowed but not mini-series.

Oh, and the idea is not to stump everyone but to keep the chain going for as long as possible. We play this one on road trips and I don't know why I didn't think to start this up here years ago. It is perfect for the online community because you can jump in whenever and wherever or as often as you want.

Also feel free to add comments about the movies or actors mentioned if you like. Part of the fun is saying “Wow, I haven't thought about that movie for years.” or “I love Errol Flynn!”

I will occasionally be posting images with my plays but it is not a requirement and remember the more people who play the more interesting the chains become so jump in.

We will make our goal for Chain27 to exceed the length of Chain24 which lasted for a mind blowing 1660 steps. Previous to Chain24 the record was held by Chain18 which had 1440 steps in it.

Chain16 had 758 steps. Chain3 557 steps. Chain23 445 steps. Chain 22 345 steps. Chain25 had 296 steps, Chain26 had steps, Chain1 had 215 steps, Chain8 201 steps, Chain12 173, Chain20 165, Chain11 163, Chain 17 120, Chain9 118, Chain5 had 111 steps, Chain2 108, Chain10 106, Chain15 103, Chain6 98, Chain21 62, Chain13 23, Chain4 10, Chain14 4, and Chain 19 a record breaking 2 steps.

... a try. I can think of at least one big film he has been in since this one.

[34 steps]

I really dislike this movie and most of of my ire is on what Johnny Depp did to Tonto. But the one thing that it did accomplish was the re-establishing in my mind just how amazingly appropriate the William Tell Overture is for westerns and running horses and chase scenes even though it was written for something completely different. Kudos to whoever it was decided back in 1933 to associate that particular piece of classical music with the Lone Ranger radio show, which BTW started at WXYZ here in Detroit as did the Green Hornet.

[Fromm Wikipedia: The finale of the Overture, often called the "March of the Swiss Soldiers" in English represents the opera's climax. And while there are no horses or cavalry charges in it, this segment is often used in popular media to denote galloping horses, a race, or a hero riding to the rescue. Its most famous use in that respect is as the theme music for The Lone Ranger; that usage has become so famous that the term "intellectual" has been defined as "a man who can listen to the William Tell Overture without thinking of the Lone Ranger."]

He has been in a few, like Man From Uncle
Posted By: Don Re: Neverending Movie Chain27 - Fri 31/05/19 21:14 UTC
[The Lone Ranger and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. were two of my very favorite TV shows growing up. And if you twisted my arm and made me pick my favorite TV show ever it would be a tie between The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and the original Magnum P.I. so it may come as something of a surprise that I do not dislike The Man from U.N.C.L.E. nearly as much as I do The Lone Ranger. And even though Illya is an out of control thug, and the direct opposite of what he was intended to be, the movie still has the right feel. It is flighty, fun, and flirty and while I could have done with a little less flighty that is how people have come to see the 60s. And Arnie Hammer cannot be held responsible for the flim's interpretation of Illya Whereas Disney let Johnny Depp run hog wild over the Lone Ranger and for most part get 'the feel' totally wrong. IMO.]

Okay, here is what I have to say about Henry Cavill but didn't want to go ahead and blurt out in case someone wanted to play one of the DC movies. I don't blame him for Dark Superman that was a directorial/producer decision but I did find him rather wooden even in that rather limited role, a trait I also notice in Immortals so I found myself quite surprised when I was liking his version of Napoleon Solo. Armie Hammer was not the Illya Kuryakin we knew and loved and Alicia Vikander was not, though no fault of hers, April Dancer so it all fell on Henry Cavill to be Solo and I think he pulled it off relatively well, enough to carry the film.

...both of which interestingly enough are/were comic books. Scott Pilgrim being a Canadian graphic series and Dylan Dog being an Italian horror comics series. I'm not sure how many people know Dylan Dog, I had never heard of it until a friend suggested we go see it and while Scott Pilgrim was a box-office bomb it has developed a cult following and so should be the safer or the two.

Between Memorial Day and TCM's celebration of the 75th anniversary of D Day I've been watching a lot of war movies. Not only that but I've taken yet another step into the 21st century by acquiring a flat panel HD TV. Watched Tora, Tora, Tora Sunday in HD. I have Battle of the Bulge in the DVR but it wasn't recorded off a HD channel and I haven't got around to watching it yet.

Far too many choices here (and most of them easily doable) and all of the big ones lead to other war movies though not all of them about WWII. Just to be different let's go with...

Mr. Church
Posted By: Don Re: Neverending Movie Chain27 - Tue 25/06/19 04:53 UTC
This one is by me. Sometimes I have not seen a movie but have seen trailers or otherwise read the internet hype and therefore know who is in a film even if I haven't seen it myself but in this case not only have I not see the movie but I haven't even heard of it. Hopefully someone else has.
Posted By: Mina Re: Neverending Movie Chain27 - Tue 25/06/19 05:02 UTC
Don, it is a newer movie of his, only a few years old, and it is a very touching movie.
Posted By: Phoenix Prime Re: Neverending Movie Chain27 - Tue 25/06/19 11:30 UTC
i know one actor/actress in this movie... but only because i followed a few of this person's TV shows. I am hesitant to offer it outright because there is a very narrow path of escape (the next movie to be played) back to the larger pool of performers. Maybe someone has a better solution than I do, but I can't remember any other actor/actresses from this movie. I only considered watching the movie(haven't actually watched it yet) because of this one person i have in mind.

If no one else can play, then I will and we can hope that there is a path forward after that...

Natasha McElhone or spelled something like that
Posted By: Don Re: Neverending Movie Chain27 - Tue 25/06/19 14:04 UTC
I looked Mr. Church up in IMDB and I could have done Britt Robertson as she is in Tomorrowland but this one is by me as well. Anyone else have a play?
Posted By: KenSeg Re: Neverending Movie Chain27 - Tue 25/06/19 14:14 UTC
I put one up for you. The lady from Designated Survivor smile
Posted By: Don Re: Neverending Movie Chain27 - Tue 25/06/19 14:21 UTC
You did, and I have no idea who she is!

Looked her up in IMDB as well and have only seen two things she is in and don't remember her from them at all. Obviously I don't/didn't watch Designated Survivor. grin And now that I have a DVR I don't watch commercials any more, so no help there. The only person I know from Designated Survivor is Kiefer Sutherland, I think.

So we need someone else to play her.
Posted By: Phoenix Prime Re: Neverending Movie Chain27 - Tue 25/06/19 14:37 UTC
my choice was going to be Lucy Fry- Australian actress who was in a couple of tween/teen tv shows there that i watched- Lightning Point(Alien Surfer Girls in US release) and Mako Mermaids(a spin off of H20) (i ran a game based on this concept)

but any way you guys went on this one, coming out of Mina's movie was going to be a narrow path- Vampire Academy or Bright for Lucy Fry

so Ken has the team on Natascha McElhone...

Just as a reminder the person we need to play off of is...

I just checked IMDb and Gryphon is right. Different movies.
Posted By: Don Re: Neverending Movie Chain27 - Tue 25/06/19 21:56 UTC
As is often the case with Hollywood there was an apparent glut of Romero and Juliet movies around that time, one in 2013 and two in 2014, none of which I have actually seen. Will start a new thread and it will be with a movie I have actually seen. The early demise of the the last two threads just serves to remind us what we accomplished back in Chain24.
