This is Round Twenty-five of the Neverending Movie Chain. Feel free to jump in anywhere you want, post once or post as often as you want just don't reply to yourself. huh
For any new folks joining in <and new folks are definitely encouraged to do so>...
We start by naming a movie, the next player to jump in has to name an actor in that film and the next to follow him/her has to name a different movie that actor was in.
EX:
Player one: Star Wars, Player Two: Mark Hamil, Player Three: Corvette Summer, Player Four: Annie Potts, Player Five: Ghostbusters, etc., etc.
Repeats are allowed but discouraged and there has to be a distance of at least five steps before you use a movie or an an actor a second time. No IMDb please <expect to look up dates of movies with identical titles or spellings of names>. grin
You need to follow the chain as it is drawn, no jumping. If we have Stephen Moyer on the table and someone plays Prince Valiant then the Prince Valiant you have to go out of is the one that had Stephen Moyer in it, no matter how many other movies out there are named Prince Valiant.
A clarification on play. We want to avoid using archival footage. For purposes of our game Dick Clark, Bob Hope, President Kennedy etc. Did not appear in Forrest Gump.
I won't make this a rule but rather a recommendation. Please avoid films that have not been released/aired in the U.S.
And just for the sake of putting it into the written rules mostly for sake of newcomers voice work (animated films) and made-for-TV movies are allowed but not mini-series.
Oh, and the idea is not to stump everyone but to keep the chain going for as long as possible. We play this one on road trips and I don't know why I didn't think to start this up here years ago. It is perfect for the online community because you can jump in whenever and wherever or as often as you want.
Also feel free to add comments about the movies or actors mentioned if you like. Part of the fun is saying “Wow, I haven't thought about that movie for years.” or “I love Errol Flynn!”
I will occasionally be posting images with my plays but it is not a requirement and remember the more people who play the more interesting the chains become so jump in.
We will make our goal for Chain25 to exceed the length of Chain24 which lasted for a mind blowing 1660 steps. Previous to Chain24 the record was held by Chain18 which had 1440 steps in it.
Chain16 had 758 steps. Chain3 557 steps. Chain23 445 steps. Chain 22 345 steps. Chain1 had 215 steps, Chain8 201 steps, Chain12 173, Chain20 165, Chain11 163, Chain 17 120, Chain9 118, Chain5 had 111 steps, Chain2 108, Chain10 106, Chain15 103, Chain6 98, Chain21 62, Chain13 23, Chain4 10, Chain14 4, and Chain 19 a record breaking 2 steps.
I like Luke Evans but he was in a string of less than epic remakes and re-tellings. Let's go with...
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
...it is better than Robin Hood, The Three Musketeers and Dracula Untold and has a larger and probably more recognizable cast, especially in a role-playing forum like Dreamlyrics.
Not a problem the Potter franchise has tons of stars who are in things other than them. In fact one of the only 'British' stars of consequence, that I can think of off the top of my head, that wasn't in them is Peter O'Toole, who comes to mind bcause he was best friends with Richard Harris.
I looked Welcome to Marwen up in IMDB and I see what my problem is. I haven't been in a movie theater since August. Not having seen a movie doesn't always mean you can't play it but I have to confess I haven't seen either a trailer or a commercial for this one and therefore didn't know it even existed.
Anyone else out there who can help us out feel free to jump in here.
It is a really interesting movie (based on a true story, I think), Don. Problem is, other than Steve Carell, there's only a couple of actors in it that I remember the name... I can go with:
Merritt Wever (whom I know from Nurse Jackie, but nothing else although I know she's been in other movies - I hope someone else can place her in something)
I enjoyed Marwen, the people I went with thought it was okay, but too slow for them. However it does have Falk Hentschel in it (Hawkman from Legends of Tomorrow).
I haven't seen this one yet but I did see the trailer in the Theater and I know all about it because he is a homegrown gangsta. I actually remember when he, Rick, was in the news hereabouts...
I love this movie. Micheal Caine's first major role. It is like the Alamo but they don't all die. We have already established that people do not know who Stanley Baker is, so as much as I want to go with Nigel Green I almost have to go with...
Jack Hawkins
...if I want to keep the chain going. The color sergeant BTW is Nigel Green.
Because I have to share a bit of family trivia. One of my father's uncles died building this and is still buried there, somewhere. Like with my grandfather who passed on after WWII while still in the Dutch East Indies, the grave has never been found.
No I don't have an actor as it's been many years since I've seen this.
Ha, you beat Mina! I figured she was going to play Book Club again.
And while Batman and Robin was indeed bad, most people have seen it. Which separates it from all the bad movies out there that no one has ever seen. And with Batman movies it is a question of worse, worse-er or worse-est, the best Batman movie made is simply less worse than the rest. The Dark Knight Rises is so far off track that it is even hard to call it a Batman movie. Batman doesn't command armies or lead men into combat*, he is a crime fighter and a detective who doesn't save cities from H-bombs that's Superman's job and he sure as H*** doesn't retire and live happily ever after. Christopher Nolan is so Clueless (note intentional reference to earlier movie) when it comes to Batman that he actually said, "Anyone can put on the suit and become Batman." That is so WRONG! Like I said clueless. Whew that felt good! We now return control of your channel.
Arnold Schwarzenegger
And Yes Virgina, even the stills make you cringe.
[280 steps]
*Somebody should tell Nolan that Captain America already has this one covered.
Going way out on a limb here but I am hoping Ex knows the movie I am thinking of, and if anybody else knows one fell free to jump in, there aren't that many but I couldn't pass him by again...
Vinny: Is it possible that the two youts-- Judge Haller: Uh, the two what? Uh, uh, what was that word? Vinny: Uh, what word? Judge Haller: Two what? Vinny: What? Judge Haller: Did you say "yutes"? Vinny: Yeah, two youts. Judge Haller: What is a yute? Vinny: Oh, excuse me, Your Honor, two youuuuuthzzzzs.
Rolled the dice one too many times for me, I never even heard of this movie. At first glance I thought it was Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, now that I have seen. Luckily I looked at it twice before playing Gary Oldman.
I liked this movie fine but then I have never hated ...
Ryan Reynolds
...as much as most people seem to.
[318 steps]
Did I ever tell you guys my Ryan Reynolds story? When I was visiting Linda in California she got tickets for us to be part of the studio audience of Veronica's Closet because she figured I would know who Kristie Alley was but Alley got laryngitis and the filming was cancelled. So we went to back to Mann's Chinese Theater so I could say I saw a movie there and we got approached by a guy who was trying to recruit folks to go and see the filming of a brand new show that wasn't on TV yet part of deal was if you went you also got passes for a free tour of Paramount Studios the next day and Linda hadn't been to Paramount yet so we decided to go. The show turned out to be Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Joint, later Two Guys and a Girl. So Linda and I knew who Ryan Reynolds was before his first appearance on TV.
Since the discount theaters in my area all closed I don't get out to the movies as much as I once did. I have only seen 10 movies released in 2018 and two of those were Netflicks originals and a third was viewed on Netflicks.
[Phage Press was pretty much a one man operation and Eric Wujcik died back in 2008. Wow doesn't seem like it as that long ago. He had been living and working in China for several years before his death, from pancreatic cancer, so Phage Press has been dormant since around 2005 or thereabouts.]
Another 2018 film I haven't seen yet, it is in Netflicks though so I will I just haven't gotten to it, Cars 3 or Despicable Me 3 yet but I know...
[Hope you have #2, 3 and 4. Myself, I have two sets, one to read and one to save. Only a thousand copies of each issue were printed as per Erick's agreement with Zelazny.
One of the coolest things that ever happened to me was when a complete stranger at a gaming convention on the University of Michigan campus walked up to me and asked me to sign his Amberzine. I'd had friends and fellow Amber players ask but that is not the same thing. ]
There's only one guy in Hollywood I enjoy more than John Wayne and that is Errol Flynn so the bait this time was for Santa Fe Trail.
Do you know that for years and years I thought this movie was about Navy fliers as the Hellcat as the go to carrier fighter in WWII but then I finally got a chance to see it and it turns out to be about submarines.
I have to say this is a hard one. Nancy (Davis) Reagan wasn't in that much and...
Arthur Franz
...is principally a TV guy but he was in a couple of big movies.
