I love Superheroes (not a surprise). I love the movies and I love original television shows, like No Ordinary Family...

I just saw this trailer, and I thought I would share it for other Super fans out there. It looks like a lot of fun, like Village of the Damned meets the super genre...

The Umbrella Academy, Season 1 coming to Netflix on February 15

And here by the title I thought it might be the Resident Evil series....
Posted By: Mina Re: The Umbrella Academy - Mon 28/01/19 04:53 UTC
Lol, love the Resident Evil franchise... But this looks fun as well.

Saw the announcement on NF and have it marked <g>

the background song won me over smile

I was compelled to put it on my list because of the snark. Also, the background song. smile

I will have to check it out as well.

On my radar now, thanks!

I just found something out today as I was setting up my episode checklist. This was originally a comic book mini-series by Dark Horse with first six-issue run appearing in 2007 and a second in 2008. The first issue of a third series The Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion was released on October 3, 2018 and a proposed fourth series is in development. The 2007 mini-series won the 2008 Eisner Award for Best Finite Series/Limited Series.

Well I have been home sick most of the week so I watched the whole series. It is entertaining and odd but very enjoyable. They set it up for a second series and I will definitely watch that too.

I watched the first episode this morning, sooooo deliciously odd and quirky!
Posted By: Exeter Re: The Umbrella Academy - Mon 18/02/19 21:44 UTC
I watched the first two episodes and can't decide whether I like it or not. It's interesting... but...

Yeah... that's what it is.

I have heard several comments that 'they were on the fence' until the 3rd episode. So think about giving the next episode a try before you decide to give up <g>

The snark. The quirky characters. The mystery. THE SOUNDTRACK! Fun show for me from the beginning, though things do start pulling together on the third or fourth episode.

Just watched the first episode last night with my beloved. I think we agreed that we both liked it - but that there was something missing. Maybe not enough spark between the characters, etc. It didn't quite hook her like Jessica Jones -- but that's just because she is JJ at heart!

I see that the story will develop a little more. We like that it has that "Royal Tenenbaums" feel to it.

And LOVE that soundtrack!

I have to admit the ending reminded me of something smile
Posted By: Mina Re: The Umbrella Academy - Sat 23/02/19 00:55 UTC
Wolf, PM me with what the ending reminded you of, or post here under the Spoilers code to hide your thoughts smile Lionhawke glad that someone else loves the soundtrack too. I loved the violin parts (especially the Phantom opening) as much as the other song picks.

OK ... so I finally got around to watch Umbrella Acadamy <g>

First, yeah. The beginning as a bit disconcerting. The problem from my perspective was that they seemed to be trying to 'insert' too many 'threads'. It was ... confusing ... disconcerting. I think they would have been better served if they had gone for something that had a bit more 'coherence'. But maybe that is just me <g>

But once we get to the third and more importantly 4th episode, things started to make more sense <g> I really enjoyed the rest <wink>

My wife and I watched the last two episodes last night and enjoyed it! smile

Certainly an interesting 'cliff hanger' <g>
Posted By: Exeter Re: The Umbrella Academy - Tue 26/02/19 16:50 UTC
Yeah, I'd have to agree there...

We did both get a bit tired of Vanya (No. 7) and her continual whining. grin

We liked best Klaus, No. 5, Hazel and the Handler.
Posted By: MikeD Re: The Umbrella Academy - Tue 26/02/19 17:18 UTC
I actually there wasn't much to like about any of the 7. But I did like like the interactions between Ben and which ever one was 'hanging' with him <g> =That= was fun!

I stated off liking Luther (#1), but not so much by the end of the season.

Did anyone pick up on the fact that UA is supposed to be happening in an alternate timeline, without the internet, cell phones, or computers?

I did notice the heavy use of vinyl but figured it was simply a taste thing, a lot of people prefer vinyl these days and the family are quirky and rich so I didn't pick up on the lack of tech.

Apparently the comicbooks all take place in 1977 in a world where President Kennedy was not assassinated. But the TV series is set in the present but without Tech.
Posted By: Mina Re: The Umbrella Academy - Tue 26/02/19 18:37 UTC
Don, good catch on the tech.

My favorite characters were: Number 5, Allison, Mom.

I did want the monkey and Vanya to die though..

I'd like to take credit but I read it on the internet when I was trying to find a quote. There are surprising few at this point. The one I was looking for was when Klaus tells Ben he went all Patrick Swayze.
Posted By: MikeD Re: The Umbrella Academy - Tue 26/02/19 20:02 UTC
I agree with Allison and 'Mom', Mina. 5 & Pogo were a mixed bag for me. There were things that I liked and disliked about them.
Posted By: Gryphon Re: The Umbrella Academy - Thu 28/02/19 18:40 UTC
I liked #1 at the start, then he got whiny.

Ended up liking Allison, Hazel, and surprisingly, Klaus- he grew on me.

Finally got to the end of the first season. Not terribly surprising but fun. Looking forward to where it all goes. smile
