AJ, It was my mistake on the status. My post was more accurate. No worries, they're dropping like flies. Jaliera can target G5, G9, G13, G8, G12 with range attacks
She targets a ghoul (5) and draws back her bow, feeling the tension in the string before she lets fly. The arrow is straight and true, hitting the ghoul for 12 points of damage.
Jaliera's arrow strikes true and the ghoul reels in pain, but within moments, it's hunger took over and it continues to fight. OOC: I can't see how stealth matters here. The ghouls can't get past the front line.
Beginning at 1st level, you know how to strike subtly and exploit a foe's distraction. Once per turn, you can deal an extra 1d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack if you have advantage on the attack roll. The attack must use a finesse or a ranged weapon.
You don't need advantage on the attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it, that enemy isn't incapacitated, and you don't have disadvantage on the attack roll.
The amount of the extra damage increases as you gain levels in this class, as shown in the Sneak Attack column of the Rogue table.
What that means is that you should target foes that are in hand-to-hand with an ally if you fail a stealth roll. BTW, I believe the "real" Lingo (who's going up to 20th this weekend!!!) has never failed to get the sneak bonus damage.
OOC: Pandemonium has been in and out over here, so I had to ghost his con save:
Luminmorn (ghosted) Con save Neptune rolled 1d20+2 and got 5 Since this happened BEFORE Ryssa and Jaliera went, if either wants to change action, I'll accept.
DM Luminmorn tries to fend off the corruption seeping through his veins but the ghoulish infection wins the battle and he falls to the ground, paralyzed by the ghoulish touch.
The wizened old monk has taken Kriv's advice from earlier as sound. They are better holding their ground a few feet back from the mouth of the passage.
"Hold the line next to Kriv Norixius, Bern! Do not advance. These confines are our ally." He says to the brave bowman.
It was difficult to refrain from the epithet that threatened to escape his lips at Chandan's 'admonition'. They =had= discussed all this ahead of time. But he had to admit that at least he was trying, offering decent advice.
Also, unless you're attacking by THROWING the spear, you cannot attack a ghoul unless you move past Bern, stand on top of the paralyzed Luminmorn (which you can do, but it's difficult terrain). If you do, Bern can only attack G3 physically.
The tactical situation is such (by your own doing by staying in the corridor and not moving into the room) that only the front line can do hand-to-hand combat.
Seeing Luminmorn slump to the floow of the cave, Ryssa, the cleric of Lathander, moved up alongside the dragonborn, kneeled and checked to see what she could do for her friend.
DM Ryssa glances at the fallen dragonborn and knows that she does not yet have the power to give him back control of his body. She can see that the fallen paladin is now the preferred prey for the ghouls as all three around him sense his vulnerability. OOC: I don't see a spell or power that can assist, unless you can turn again.
[[ When wielded as a melee weapon, it certainly =should= have reach compared to a dagger or short sword, and probably more than a long sword (although, not by much <g>) Maybe you are thinking of the 'short spear' <weg> ]]
