OOC: Zombies aren't that slow either. Their move is 20 Good move. Now the ghouls are visible.
DM When Chandan hears Ryssa's warning, he creates a fire in a brazier on the nearby table. The light from that brazier reveals the ghouls that are closing in on the party. At least now some of the targets are visible.
Not wanting to close to melee until he knows more about what these things will do, he will take a step forward and use his Thorn Whip to strike at the nearest ghoul.
Davroar Thorn whip attack on G1, and will not attempt to pull it closer on a successful strike. Dugan rolled 1d20+4,2d6 and got 18, 6
The noble scion assessed the tactical situation, not best pleased with it. He stated,
“We have a substantial numerical disadvantage. Fall back to deep inside the corridor, to keep from being swarmed and to cluster them up so we can cleanse them with fire.”
He snapped off a Fire Bolt at the nearest ghoul and then followed his own words, retreating to form a defensive line within the lip of the corridor.
Kriv Fire Bolt at nearest ghoul AJ rolled 1d20+5,1d10 and got 16, 10
It took successful hits from Bern's arrow, Kriv's fire bolt and then, finally, Davroar's Thorn Whip to finally slay a single ghoul but they do, eventually destroy it. That leaves a dozen more and they all rush up to attack. Perhaps it would have been prudent to heed Luminmorn's tactical advice, but it was too late to do so. One of the ghouls manages to dig it's claw into Bern and another sinks his into Davroar. All the other ghouls press forward as fast as they can, craving to indulge in the feast that was delivered into their dining hall. But none of the rest were able to attack yet.
Ghoul#3 Claw attack on Davroar Neptune rolled 1d20+4,2d4+2 and got 14, 8 Ghoul#2 Claw attack on Bern Neptune rolled 1d20+4,2d4+2 and got 18, 8 I need both Davroar and Bern to make a DC 10 constitution save or be paralyzed for 1 minute. If you fail, you get to repeat your saving throw at the end of your turns. Let's resolve this before we move ahead with the rest of the party's turn.
DM Just as Jaliera fires her arrows at the ghoul that attacked Davroar, the druid stiffens up, turns pale and drops to the ground, his arms and legs contorted from the paralysis that has gripped him. The other ghouls, seeing him drop, are set to start eating him.
Ryssa felt a chill descend over her body, a feeling of unnaturalness and evil and she clutched her holy icon of Lathander, concentrating on the plea to her deity to destroy or at least turn away the ghouls.
The prayer was presented more as a shouted command than a prayer.
"By the power of The Morninglord, I demand that you get yourselves off the skin of the earth!"
The cleric of Lathandar presents her holy symbol and divine power flows through her, into the symbol and then the Morninglord's radiance pours over the ravenous undead. Most of the ghouls avert their eyes from the invisible glow.
The dice had to turn cold sooner of later. 10 of the 11 remaining ghouls FAIL their saves! Too bad they're not less than CR-1. If they were, they would be destroyed. No matter, they are turned and will act on their turn. It lasts 1 minute (10 rounds)
G2....G12 Wisdom save - DC 14 Ryssa turning Neptune rolled 1d20,1d20,1d20,1d20,1d20,1d20,1d20,1d20,1d20,1d20,1d20 and got 1, 9, 8, 9, 5, 2, 2, 1, 17, 3, 5
Chandan, Bern, Kriv and Davroar go. Davroar needs to make a CON saving throw.
As a monk whose duties involved sky burials---ritualistic returning of the dead back to the raw elements by feeding them to the birds---Chandan has strong feelings about the dead eating the living.
What use do the dead have for food? They exist outside of nature. They eat out of pure gluttony or depravity. So unlike almost any other predator in the world, their killing is purest murder, the wanton destruction of life.
So needless to say, Chandan does not take kindly to ghouls trying to eat his young and erstwhile friend, Davroar.
No. Not kindly at all.
Chandan jumps on the ghoul that lingers, driving his spear through its chest and stamping on its face.
Bern att w/ hoard breaker MikeD rolled d20+8,d8+3,d20+8,d8+3 and got 19, 5, 11, 6
Will pick wounded first (but I don't think there are any that are not dead <g>). Protecting the wounded/paralyzed Dav would be second ... can't see one of the numbers, but 7 and the one north of him or 3 if that is a better option.
Breaking out in a cold sweat, he struggles to move but the ghoulish effect remains. The only saving grace it seems is Ryssa's powers have kept these things from eating him.
