Holding her short bow, arrow nocked but bowstring relaxed in her left hand, the cleric of Lathander touched her holy icon with her right hand and murmured a non-specific prayer to her deity.
The odd looking group proceeds up the path towards the tower, Favrice perhaps being the only one who seems truly happy and excited.
The party follows behind, not completely trusting this man and his followers, nor his goals.
Upon reaching the base of the tower, Favric reaches into his belt pouch and pulls out three medium sized, clear coloured gems. The diamonds sparkle in the light of the morning sun.
"Oh most mighty Venomfang!" He cries aloud. "I, Favric, have come to treat with you! Grace us with your presence! We are not worthy, but we offer to you this tribute!" He holds the gems aloft, the sun sparkling off their faceted surfaces casts a rainbow of colours against the walls of the tower.
For a moment there is silence, then there is the sound of claws on stone coming from inside the tower. A moment later, a green reptilian head appears, followed by a long sinuous body as the aforementioned Venomfang clambers on top of the battlements, 40 feet up, and glares down at you.
The closer they got to the tower, the further back in the group he got. When the other group's leader called the dragon, he got his bow ready. He didn't expect it would be much good against a dragon, but it might be able to provide enough of a distraction that they could disperse ... if things came to that.
This was exciting! A dragon, a real dragon! The halfling moved towards the tower and there he saw the great green wyrm. What that meant to the halfling was that the dragon's treasure was unguarded. He moved cautiously towards the cottage and thought to himself that maybe there was a back entrance. So he circled around back.

The cleric eased back, also, moving alongside the ranger, her bow and arrow ready.
Attacking a dragon was more than she had really bargained for and she decided not to cast any spells as of yet as she thought there would be a good chance she'd need a full complement of healing spells before this confrontation was over.
She just hoped she'd have enough healing to cover what was needed.
Lingo slides around the back of the tower and finds a window he can squeeze into. Of course no one notices him do this.
In front of the tower the encounter with the dragon, now revealed as a green variety, continues.....
Venomfang: "Why should I deal with you, puny human? I can just kill you and take your baubles." The great reptilian head swivels all around, and each one of you can feel it looking into your eyes, evaluating and considering.
Favric: "Why, of course you could, mighty Venomfang. But how much better would it be for you if we worked together? If you had others to guard your lair when you hunted, or who could find mighty treasures for you to add to your hoard?"
The dragonborn looked at the more exalted of his kin, and his mouth opened slightly with his tongue flickering in and out. He was uncertain of a great many things in this moment. Not the least of which the evil dragon above them. Yet he continued to play his part and remain silent.

(OOC - MikeD - Posting as Pande did to display thoughts and such or taking the opportunity to speak to a dragon are potential responses here. But nothing is required. Just didn't want to move ahead and circumvent someone.)
Lingo The halfling moves into the tower, greed on his mind. He figures that the dragon is sleeping. Dragons have great treasure and there's no way that he's going to let someone else have first (or second or third) pick of the loot. He continues onward until he sees what he's looking for.

Venomfang pauses a moment in consideration of Favric's offer. Suddenly it's head whips around and bends down, staring behind it into the interior of the tower.
It turns back and stares at Favric, and all of you with anger.
"So, that was you plan! Distract me with offers of cooperation while you sent a sneak-thief to steal my treasure! Well, I will show you what happens to thieves!"
With a sinuous motion it dives off the top of the tower and disappears back inside and out of view.
Favric is left open-mouthed, calling after Venomfang loudly. "No! It was not me! I had nothing to do with this!"
He turns around, pointing angrily at your group.
"This is your doing! You sent someone inside! I knew not to trust you! Kill them!" He shouts to his followers. "We can still show Venomfang we are his allies!" His men start to spread out and draw their weapons.
The cleric winced, wondering what had happened to Lingo, normally the most stealthy of their group by far. She turned to aim her bow at the closest of Favric's men.
It took him a moment to 'guess' at the problem. Poor, greedy Lingo had been unable to resist the temptation, he thought with a sigh. Favic was clearly and his bow =was= ready ...
