Davroar & Jaliera

Jaliera fires again, this time hoping to hit one of the ruffians whilst avoiding her own group.

To hit 9, Damage 9

Davroar makes use of the reach with his staff and the ducking motion of Chandan to attack.

To hit 11, Damage 3

ooc: Gypsy, the quarterstaff does not have extended reach. Davroar can only hit adjacent opponents with it. He does have a sling for ranged attacks. It doesn't quite matter, both Jaliera and Davroar miss. Your target AC=14 and for those behind Jaliera it's at -2 for cover, so that effective AC=16.

Bloody Mary's coming up for Chandan smile

[ooc: BTW, if you have the PHB, see the weapons table on page 147. If the weapon has the "reach" property, that's when you can do that. Pike, glaive, lance and whip are the only ones listed there with that property (future books are sure to have more)]

Kallista

She takes a step back, so she can see across the cavern to the north and not have her line of sight blocked by the pillar (10,5), and she fires another Firebolt at the frontmost foe, but it misses the mark.

Kallista Attack, Dam
Zeim rolled d20+5,d10 and got 9, 4

Kriv

As entertaining as it was to have their itinerant jester engage the bandits one by one in a display of drunken brawling, Kriv was not known for his humor, nor was it the most effective method of wiping out these human vermin.

"They're too strong for us! Fall back!"

A blatant lie, but hopefully one that would pander to drunken egos. He could but hope his compatriots understood the fairly unsubtle subtext, as Kriv stood ready at the top of the stairs, maul in hands.

Karok is standing guard and if we do back up in the room with more space to fight, he'll join in. For now he's more than happy to make sure they aren't jumped from behind.

Chandan

He's not overly enamored of his current impression of a Dwarven Defender; he has neither axe or shield, nor a dwarf's fondness for tunnels.

With his companions making more space behind him, he waves his spear in a seemingly haphazard fashion, making a fighting withdrawal.

So the drunken Redbrand Ruffian attacks Chandan but in his stupor he misses both swings with his short sword. Then Chandan starts to back up.

Ruffian Attacks Chandan
Neptune rolled 1d20+4,1d20+4,1d6+2,1d20+4,1d20+4,1d6+2 and got 5, 21, 8, 10, 7, 3

Where is Chandan going? X,Y coords please. I assume that's the disengage action, to avoid the opportunity attack. That will be a full action. Everyone else goes.

DAVROAR & JALIERA

As soon as they realise that Chandon is backing up, both move out of his way.

ooc: One of the "tactical" challenges of PBP games are what takes 30 seconds in a FTF could take days here. I don't know where A5 is on the map since both the X and Y coordinates are numbers but I get the idea that you all want Kriv in front and you want to let the ruffians come at you in a less constricted area. So, to help things out, we'll take Chandan's move as a "disengage" action and the rest of you shuffled about into a good formation. I'm proposing this and I'll give everyone a chance to adjust.

As for the actions the rest of you take, I assume that you're readying a reaction (and I'll let you declare). What will you do if __blank__ happens? You cannot interupt another action but you can take the declared action right after. You might say "I let my arrow fly as soon as I see someone emerge from the corridor".

So, briefly,
1) Is your position on the map OK?
2) What is your reaction? (except for Chandan who used his action).

Looks good to me. Karok will wait for someone stupid enough to come close to him.

If we can attack a foe standing in 5,7, at the top of the stairs, then it would seem pretty good to have pcs in 4,8. 5,8. and 6,8 so we can fight three on one. Just sayin.

Kallista's position is fine. She will use her cantrip again.

[[Yes, sorry, I meant move to 8,5, which is where A was standing. Thus creating a Reverse Bugbear Manoeuvre, where we're the ones bopping them on the heads. wink

DAVROAR & JALIERA

Davroar will ready his staff and hit the first person to emerge. Jaliera will swap places with K and ready an arrow for the second brigade, expecting the first to fall.

Kriv

The Dragonborn stood ready and in position to assault any of the ruffians that crested the stairwell, maul in hand.

"C'mon back ole man! Yer gonna die!" the ruffian says as Chandan retreats up the steps. The ruffian follows and swings his sword again, missing twice

Ruffian Attacks Chandan
Neptune rolled 1d20+4,1d20+4,1d6+2,1d20+4,1d20+4,1d6+2 and got 5, 10, 6, 16, 7, 6

I did the best I could with the moves but I'm not sure I got it right. I think AJ wanted Kriv at 8,5 but Chandan's there. AJ, if you want to use your reaction from 8,6, I'll move you there and then you can take it. Davroar gets his. Then, everyone (including Kriv and Davroar) get their normal attacks.

I'll take 8,6

Kriv

The Dragonborn could be patient, and he had all the time in the world as the lead Ruffian lumbered up the steps towards them. He stepped deftly to one side to give Chandan room, then aimed his maul swing to catch the Ruffian whilst his attention was on the vagrant.

Kriv reaction attack on the ruffian
AJ rolled 1d20+5 and got 25(!)
Kriv Critical hit damage, GWF rerolls 1s or 2s
AJ rolled d6,d6,d6,d6 and got 4, 1, 1, 5
Kriv GWF rerolls
AJ rolled d6,d6 and got 1, 2
4+1+2+5+3= 15 damage.

He assessed his foe after that first impact, ready to hit him again if he needed it or to wait for the next one to fall for the same move.

Kriv Regular attack
AJ rolled 1d20+5 and got 10

Kallista

Taking stock, she waits her turn and then fires her standby cantrip at the foremost enemy.

(OOC - Nep - Put this in whenever she goes. She'll target the enemy who is closest to the front.)

Kallista Firebolt
Zeim rolled d20+5,d10 and got 22, 2

Karok

The situation was much better now. They'd take fewer injuries and if these ruffians were as dense as they seemed, this would be over quickly.

With Kriv now in front of him, he couldn't step up to attack, so he took a moment to assess the health of everyone.

Davroar

With Chandan having backed off he now has an opportunity to hit the lead ruffian, walloping him with his staff. Except he missed.. again. Somehow he needs to get his focus together.

To hit 9, damage 3

Jaliera

She expects to target the second man as it is likely the first will be taken out.

To hit 12, damage 6
