(OOC Luminmorn hadn't moved partly because he didn't want to make more noise and make it hard to hear the soft voice that only Bern seems to hear and because we haven't picked a direction. Not trying to be difficult. :))

(OOC - Pande - np. However I've seen posts saying "lets look at all 4 exits" and "lets check the room", but no one is moving anywhere to do any of that.)

"Apparently it is down in the crevasse", he explained when he 'heard' the voice again.

"What is it you expect me to 'feed' you", he said in hope that it would 'hear' and reply.

The halfling finds this all amusing. He hides. Based on the roll, I think he's close to invisible.

He sighed. This was not the sort of thing he preferred to face. Better a score of orcs, he thought.

"Not 'when' ... 'what'?"

He remained still listening to one half of the conversation with weapon ready.

Balthazar

He took out a second copper coin and cast light on it.

"Toss this down in the crevasse and lets see what is down there." he said to Bern, handing it to him.

The cleric peered down into the gloom of the crevasse.

"Does the voice sound male or female? Old or young?"

"Well ... it mostly sounds creepy", he said with an initial shrug and then pondered the question a bit more ...

Bern can't tell male or female, young or old, only stangeness.

"OK, that sounds like a threat", he said as he pulled his rapier ...

Bern draws his weapon as the last set of words echo in his head. Balthazar moves up past Ryssa and tosses one of his light coins into the crevasse then leans over to peer down into it.

Just at that moment, there is a rush of movement. Stepping out from behind the nearby rough stone pillar a weird looking creature rushes towards you. It is tall, gangly, with sharp claws and has a single and huge central eye. It rushes up and shoves Bern and Balthazar, attempting to push them into the crevasse. As it moves past Luminmorn, it's eye gazes at him.

OK. the way this works is a contest between Bern and Balthazar and the Nothic. It made a Strength check to shove both Bern and Balthazar (see rolls above). Bern and Balthazar must make either a Str or a Dex check (your choice which stat to use). You need to at least tie the roll the Nothic got on you or you've been pushed off the ledge into the crevasse. We will deal with that after we see if you fail or succeed.

For Luminmorn, you need to make a DC 12 Con Save against the gaze effect. So, before anyone else acts, I need those three rolls so I can complete the results of the Nothic's action and then we will move on to the initiative order.

(OOC - Yes. If you make a check and use a Stat that you are "Trained" in you can add your Prof bonus. The Trained stats vary based on pc class. Ranger uses Str and Dex.)

Bern takes 7 points of damage from falling 20 feet onto a jumble of sharp rocks at the bottom of the crevasse, and is prone.

Bern notes that it is unnaturally cold down there and that some of what he assumed were sharp rocks are actually gnawed bones.

(OOC - Just need Balthazar and Luminmorn's rolls....)

He managed to get to his feet, but he is gonna feel this in the morning, he thinks wryly.
