I also would love a Firefly game ...

But there's an inherent problem with a Firefly game simply by it's very nature, one I've seen repeated over and over again in various forms and such. It's actually an extremely hard genre to play correctly - in fact it could be considered its own Gaming Trope:

The Firefly Effect
When, in the course of playing a game or campaign, the in-game universe becomes a mirror image of the original source material.

Simply put, most folks want to play Browncoats. Which is fine and dandy and sounds all powerful romantical. However, folks like to have fun and succeed, so eventually as the game progresses, the players succeed in their adventures, triumph over their adversaries ... which seems harmless until you realize that this means the Big Bads become the victims and you end up with the Browncoats being more successful than the Alliance.

Which is a reverse of the Firefly universe.

What is it that Whedon said about Firefly? I think it went like this:

"Firefly is about the losers."

There are very few roleplayers out there who can actually play the losing side.

Over and over again.

Look at Serenity ... in the end Wash and Book are dead, the ship is still falling apart, even if Mal got the message out it probably won't change much and it changes absolutely nothing about the fact that he still has to scrape by trying figuring out where the next job comes from and whether or not he can fuel his ship and feed his crew ...

That's a pretty depressing world to be playing in ... which is why it tends to get flipped upside down when folks actually run it ... which means you end up playing something, but that something really isn't Firefly.

So what defines Post-apocalyptic? I can imagine any number of apocalypses, but I tend to assume that people generally mean something along the lines of Gamma World or Planet of the Apes. True?

It can be after almost any kind of world changing event.

I ran a game for a short while with a total loss of power scenario a year or more before REvolution was on television, using the books "Dies the Fire" as a basis for my theme.

Zombie apocalypse.

Amadan's game of "The Stand".

Was thinking of a scenario maybe 10 years in the future, to add a touch of realism to some cool new gadgets and tech, but adding in power loss, or some other incident that stops everything and everyone in their tracks.
