Oh, none of these things are emergencies. One's a major implementation (they want to go live in January and I hurt myself when I fell off my chair laughing), two are projects that have been waiting over a year for attention (one of which just keeps getting larger and larger in scope), one is a set of modifications to ridiculously complex database views, one is a request for yet another ridiculously complex database view, one is troubleshooting why the last piece of the previous major implementation isn't working . The problem is that, as a single person, I can only do so much. I can do the job of a single person, but I'm expected to do the job of two... well, closer to two and a half at this point.

It's not helpful or productive to have a boss who tells you that everything HAS TO GET DONE. <shrug> I do ignore pretty much everything except (currently) the major implementation. I've given up on trying to get Windows Task Scheduler to successfully execute a flippin' batch file and just manually do the job every morning. A waste of my time, but until the Systems guys can figure it out... whatever. My boss isn't happy all these things aren't getting done... but then, she's the one who hired a librarian to be a programmer, not me.

Mokie: When we move over to Siena Hall, I'm going to figure out whose space is directly above yours and dance like an elephant every afternoon. It will wake us both up. It will be fun for everyone (except the people whose space I dance in... and if it's the space I think it is, one of them doesn't have a sense of humor).

Almost textbook definition of an abusive manager with no spine.

Come work for me. I have no problem telling my bosses that 9 women can't have a baby in 1 month. I have got them to the point that they tell me what projects they want and I tell them how many they'll get.

You're not near me. Also, while there's a possibility you'd give me more money, I'm pretty sure my other benefits are unmatchable. smile

And it's not that I don't like my job. I enjoy programming the ridiculously complex views. I enjoy working with the people whose Banner modules I support (Mokie is a BLAST!). This implementation is gawd-awful mostly because the campus scheduling office is even more understaffed than ITS, and my counterpart on the functional side just doesn't have time to do most of what she needs to do. And the timeline wasn't well thought out in the first place. Somehow, I'll get the program ready for testing after Christmas break. Somehow, I'll manage to get the class scheduling portion working so Mokie can schedule classes in... March? Please say March, Brad. Okay, I'll really be aiming for the end of February, but... please say March. (But wait... if we're still in TESTING mode in February... we can't run schedules for Fall in the live database... so... oh boy. Whose license can I usurp for a while? Chris over in Facilities. Yeah. That'll work.)

I don't have a problem telling my boss certain things can't get done. She does, however, have a problem hearing that... which would seem to be her problem, not mine (though somehow it does work out to be mine).

We are talking. About things. Specifically, in my case, things that are filling up my brain. So I dunno who you're poking there, buddy, but just come up here and try that. You know what will happen. I'm from Chicago. grin

<chortle> I think Mikal only mentioned his birth name to Darian and Dazi.

Also, Dazi thinks it's very interesting that she's friends with people named after the young warrior in both versions of the song. What are the chances of that not being some kind of sign from those Fates of Cesare? grin

I used his real name purposefully, for the same reason he left his armour behind. He wanted to pay respects to his family the way they knew him, before he was forced into becoming a mercenary.

Well bigger than Kadri but not big for a guy. Slim, about 5' 10". You can judge better by his pic.

I assume your questions is to do with Lisica. I know you describe her as small. I rode for years, worked at a stable in fact. Horses are incredibly strong, even ponies can carry two people - maybe not at pace and for a long time - but the only problem with smaller horses is the length of stirrups. To make contact with the horse (most signalling is done with the legs) the stirrups need to have the foot positioned so that the bent leg has full contact. Means it is less comfortable for the rider. grin

That was what I was picturing, more or less. And what I was reading said a good general rule of thumb was a horse comfortably carrying about a third of its weight.

Just to avoid clutter ... Kadri was hoping to partly avoid Romana's distinctiveness by being an attention sink herself. If she is playig he role she is going to play she will be noticed anyway, so might as well take it to eleven ...

Mike, Owain isn't going to be around much at all. You are probably aware of the issues with the new baby. Just a suggestion but his character could decide to take some time out to gather herbs etc, rather than go into the city. If Owain returns, he could then come and find us?

Just a thought and better than killing off the character. smile

Wolf, the crossbow Mikal & Cesare are using is the one Cesare bought in the last town. That cleared him out of funds, hence Darian is paying for them both currently. The lessons from Mikal are to be repaid by the forging of a Rhoni dagger for Mikal.

Just clarifying. grin

Well that suggestion for Romana went a bit further than I had thought initially but I like it.. and I feel Cesare's father would approve too. wink

Good job Niv! smile

All my resolves require a person other than me replying, so I'm no help there.
