The intervening half year has gone by so fast, it seems like there hasn't been enough time to even ruminate over new games.

But although it only seems like yesterday, who can remember what we were talking about six months ago?

http://www.dreamlyrics.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=596281#Post596281

Fantasy had obviously been hiding in shadows, as it leapt out and sneak attacked us with a natural 20--- but the analogy quickly fails its saving throw vs actuality, since it was not D&D we were all after but something less conventional.

Between putting the boot in on shiny emo-vampires, a desire for deeper, more considered Fantasy games was expressed.

And since then there's been only one new Fantasy game that met that specific criteria, although we've had a couple of Alternate Reality games that come pretty close.

So will Fantasy still be the front-runner this time?

I often contemplate murder mystery games, as I do so love murder mysteries, and have a long list of people who ought to be murdered. Kind of too bad I have that whole PSTD thing going on about GMing. Ah well. I'm sure someone clever will do one. smile

I went for Historical, but I think a period setting is a good start point for a murder mystery too.

Ditch all the flashy gadgets and forensics and databases, bring it back to basics.

Super OCD Woman stares in horror at the thought of ditching databases, and pulls out a zat'nik'tel to keep hers safe.

grin

A murder mystery would be fun.

Has anyone read John Maddox Robert's SPQR series? Murder mystery/detective novels set in ancient Rome. Very enjoyable.

What about Peter F. Hamilton's Void Trilogy. Anybody read those. Someone else recommended them to me.

Nivek, I really enjoyed reading the Void trilogy by Mr. Hamilton. Very entertaining and well worth the read in my opinion.

John Maddox Roberts is one of my favourites authors. His tenure on Conan augmented the character and setting, whilst bringing a very modern grittiness to the stories, perhaps from his experiences as a Green Beret in Vietnam, and from his interest in hard-boiled detective fiction.

I like the SPQR series too. Decius Metellus is an interesting detective, not least because his moral compass is very Roman.

But I think a historical murder mystery game has a ring to it. It'd need trimmings.
