It's not overly complex but as an old grognard RPGer, it is an entertaining page-turner.
There's a good bit of world-building but its perspective is from people who don't pay that a ton of attention so Eames doesn't either. So if you like your fantasy to go deep into the whys of everything, it might not be for you. It's not Malazan deep but there's a complexity there above pulp sword and sorcery. It's dark but has heart. It's probably the most fun new fantasy I've read since Lies of Locke Lamora.
Plus, it's about old dudes and glory days and I thought a few folks on this forum would like it. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,067 Likes: 9 Wobbly Headed Administrator | Wobbly Headed Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,067 Likes: 9 | Bought this one for my brother a couple of years back and he really enjoyed it. He also enjoys Black Library stuff so it seemed up his street. There's a tie-in called Bloody Rose, same author. | | |
